Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Jonah Hodges ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns to lead Pioneer Football League champion San Diego over Campbell 57-21 Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Having already clinched the PFL's automatic berth to the 2016 FCS Playoffs coming into Saturday's matchup, USD moved to 9-1 overall and a perfect 8-0 in conference play. Campbell finished the season 5-5, clinching the program's second season at .500 or better since rebooting in 2008. The finished 3-4 in PFL play.
USD turned three second half Campbell turnovers into touchdowns, pulling away after Syd Holt's scoop and score brought the Torero lead to 23-21 early in the third quarter.
USD led 23-14 when Daniel Bostick sacked Torero quarterback Anthony Lawrence, forcing a fumble. Holt picked up the loose ball and returned it 21 yards for the touchdown, Campbell's first defensive score of the season.
Devyn Bryant (63 yards) and KJ Mahoney (32 yards) both returned third quarter interceptions for touchdowns for the Toreros in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 43-21.
Brian Riley and Jordan Charles tacked on scores in the fourth.
Hodges carried the ball 19 times for 158 yards, finding the end zone with a four yard first quarter run and an 80 yard scamper in the second. Anthony Lawrence completed 20-of-28 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown.
Aaron Blockmon caught six passes for 161 yards and a touchdown for the Camels, the Sanford, N.C. native's fourth straight 100-yard game and sixth of the season. A week after setting a Campbell record for longest play from scrimmage with a 90 yard TD catch at Morehead State, Blockmon hauled in a 96 yard strike from Anthony Robbins on the Camels' first play from scrimmage for a touchdown.
He set Campbell single season marks for receiving yards (1,038), receiving touchdowns (10) and receptions (54) in 2016. A redshirt sophomore, Blockmon is also Campbell's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,491) and receiving touchdowns (15).
Jared Joyner rushed for 51 yards on 20 carries, while Robbins hit 12-of-26 targets for 208 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Austin Fleming added a touchdown catch for the Camels.
Defensively, Jack Ryan owned a game-high 14 tackles with 1.0 for loss for CU, while Bostick collected nine stops with a sack and a forced fumble. DJ Jones added six tackles.
Max Michaels totaled 10 tackles with an interception for the Toreros. Jonathan Petersen picked up 3.0 of USD's six sacks in the win. Each of Petersen's five tackles on the day went for losses.
San Diego held Campbell under 50 yards rushing for the first time since 2012 (10/13 at San Diego, 21 yards). USD outgained the Camels 432-260 in total offense.
