Kansas downs Campbell, 66-48, Sunday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kylee Kopatich posted a game-high 21 points to lead Kansas over Campbell, 66-48, on Sunday afternoon inside historic Allen Fieldhouse.
 
Kansas (1-0) started the game on a 17-0 run before Campbell (0-1) got on the board at the 1:55 mark. The Jayhawks never trailed and led by as many as 21 points during the match.
 
Kopatich led the Jayhawks with six points during the run along with Christalah Lyons, who contributed four of her 13 points during the stretch.
 
Summer Price's 18 points, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, led Campbell's offense. Tatyana Carver also scored in double figures, tallying 10 points in her collegiate debut.
 
Along with Carver, four other freshmen made their debuts on Sunday. Kyra Davis earned the start for Campbell, grabbing four boards in 24 minutes of action.
 
Lauren McNamara-Clement posted a team-high six rebounds along with a pair of 3-point baskets. Micaila Coleman knocked down a pair of free throws and Ashlyn Hampton grabbed two rebounds for Campbell.
 
The two sides played even basketball in the second half, 31-31, with Campbell edging Kansas, 19-15, in the third quarter of play.
 
A trio of Campbell scorers – Davis, Price and Carver - helped Campbell to a 10-2 third quarter run and cut the deficit to 10, 37-27, but Kansas quickly responded with six straight points to extend the lead back to 16, 43-27.
 
The Camels twice closed the gap to 12 in the latter portion of the third quarter after a McNamara-Clement three and a pair of Price free throws.
 
Brianna Osorio scored five points during a 9-0 run that helped Kansas out to its largest lead of 21 points, 57-36, with 7:27 remaining in the contest.
 
Price tallied 15 of her 18 points in the second half, including eight in the fourth quarter during Campbell's 12-9 run to close out the game.
 
Kansas controlled play in the paint, scoring 30 points and limiting Campbell to just six points.
 
CU held the advantage in scoring from beyond the arc, knocking down 50 percent of its shots (10-of-20), while Kansas connected on just 35 percent (7-of-20).  
 
Campbell also edged Kansas at the charity stripe, knocking down 66.7 percent of its opportunities (12-of-18), while KU scored 65 percent of its chances (13-of-20)
 
Campbell will take on William Peace on Friday at 7 p.m. in Gore Arena for the 2017-18 home opener.
