Price and Bowns lead Campbell over USC Upstate

BUIES CREEK, N.C. Caroline Bowns and Summer Price scored in double figures to lead Campbell to a 69-49 victory over USC Upstate on Sunday afternoon inside Gore Arena.
 
Bowns knocked down 4-of-7 from 3-point range and Price added a pair of buckets from beyond the arc for Campbell, which led for more than 37 minutes on Sunday.
 
Neither side led by more than six for the opening 11:32 until Campbell went on a 16-2 run over a span of 4:04 in the second period to extend its lead to 14 points, 32-18.
 
Taya Bolden gathered a game-high 11 rebounds, her second consecutive game with double-digit boards. MaKala Rouse grabbed six rebounds, three each way, and dished out a game-high five assists for the Camels.
 
Diamon Shiflet was the lone scorer in double-figures for USC Upstate (0-4), scoring 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. The Spartans had eight others score in the contest, but committed 20 turnovers leading to 24 points for the Camels.
 
USC Upstate scored four quick points midway through the fourth quarter to close the gap to 12, 56-44, but a pair of free throws from Price sparked a 13-3 run as Campbell reached its largest lead of 22, 69-47.
 
Campbell dominated the glass for the second consecutive outing, out-rebounding the visitors, 42-30, including 18 on the offensive end.
 
Seven different Camels scored from the free throw line, as Campbell went 14-of-16 from the charity stripe on the day.
 
The Spartans got on the board first with a quick basket in the lane from A'Lexxus Davis, but the Camels responded with the next eight points to claim the lead for good. Campbell turned eight USC Upstate turnovers into 11 of its 16 points in the first period.

Kyra Davis (8pts, 3reb), Lauren McNamara-Clement (7pts, 4reb) and Tatyana Carver (6pts, 3 ast) all played 10-plus minutes as they continue to contribute early in their freshmen campaigns for the Orange and Black
 
Price's 14-point output is her 10th double-digit performance and the 18th time in the last 20 games. She is also 40 points away from 1,000 career points.
 
Campbell returns to action on Wednesday, as it heads to the College of Charleston with tip-off set for 6:30 p.m.
