Campbell downs CofC 53-45 Wednesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. ­– Three Camels scored in double figures to lead Campbell to a 53-45 win at College of Charleston on Wednesday evening inside TD Arena.
 
Caroline Bowns led the Camels with 14 points, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. Summer Price added 12 points and MaKala Rouse scored 10.
 
Taya Bolden grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, including 10 on the defensive glass, for her third consecutive game of 10 or more rebounds. Rouse grabbed nine rebounds of her own, one shy of a double-double.
 
Tanisha Brown led the Cougars with a game-high 17 points, while Bri Boy added seven points along with a team-high eight rebounds.
 
Campbell trailed for only 27 seconds on Wednesday night, as CofC held a brief one-point lead, 20-19, at the 3:27 mark of the second quarter.
 
A trio of Campbell free throws within a 35-second span reclaimed the lead for CU and sparked a 16-4 run into the third quarter to give the Camels a double-digit advantage, 35-24, with 5:54 left in the third.
 
CU stretched the lead to as many as 14 points on three different occasions in the second half to keep the game out of reach. The Camels defense limited CofC to just 23.6 percent (13-of-55) from the floor, including 0-for-12 from downtown.
 
The Cougars held a 12-point advantage at the charity stripe, knocking down 19-of-24, compared to Campbell's 7-of-9 mark in the contest.  
 
Campbell shot 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-9 from long range. CU ended the half on an 10-2 run to take a seven-point advantage into the break, 29-22.
 
Defensively, the Camels limited CofC to just 25 percent (6-of-24) in the first half, but a 10-of-12 mark at the free throw line kept the Cougars within single digits at the intermission.  
 
Freshmen Kyra Davis and Ashlyn Hampton led the way for CU off the bench, playing 16 minutes each and combining for 10 points and six boards.
 
The Camels out-rebounded their opposition for the third consecutive game, holding a 42-35 advantage against the Cougars.
 
During the three-game winning streak, Campbell has led for 114:27 of game time, while trailing for just 1:57.
 
Campbell returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m., against in-state foe, UNC Greensboro.
