BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
Marcus Burk scored 31 points and Campbell shot 63 percent from the floor in a 98-53 win over Johnson & Wales Monday at Gore Arena.
The Camels (2-2) knocked down 12-of-23 three-point shots and held the Wildcats (2-2) to just 30.5 percent shooting.
Cory Gensler and
Jon Ander Cuadra added 12 points each for the Camels, who led 51-24 at the half and by as many as 47 down the stretch.
Robert Hobson led JWU with 13 points and Alcyone Moore added 10 for the Wildcats, who shot just 28 percent in the second half.
Campbell shot 66.7 percent (18-of-27) from the field in the opening half and wrapped a 22-2 run around the break.
Burk followed a career-high 33-point effort two days ago at UNC Wilmington with a second-straight 30-point outing. A sophomore guard from Indianapolis, Burk made 12-of-16 shots, 7-of-11 from 3-point distance, and tied his career-high with four assists.
With the nation's sixth-leading scorer,
Chris Clemons, sidelined by injury, Campbell had 25 assists on 35 made baskets.
Andrew Eudy (8 points), Gensler and
Mogga Lado (9 points, 7 rebounds) also added four dishes apiece.
CU converted 16 Johnson & Wales miscues into a 20-9 edge in points off turnovers and finished with a 44-27 edge on the glass.
The Camels host the Creek Classic over Thanksgiving Weekend. Campbell opens the event on Friday in a 2:00 p.m. tip-off against Abilene Christian, followed by Bowling Green vs. USC Upstate at 5:00.
The Creek Classic continues Saturday and Sunday at Gore Arena. Tournament passes for all six games are just $20.
