GREENSBORO, N.C. – Summer Price poured in a career-high 28 points to lead Campbell to a 72-61 win over UNCG on Saturday afternoon inside Fleming Gym.
Price shot 11-of-17 (64.7 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-6 (50 percent) from downtown, for her career-high point production. With her 28 points, Price also eclipsed the 1,000-career point mark. She is the 18th player in program history to accomplish this feat.
Campbell's (4-1)
Taya Bolden posted her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds, her fourth straight game with double-digit rebounds.
UNCG (4-2) had four scorers in double figures, led by Alexus Willey's 15 points. Brandi Fier (12 points), Ije Ajemba (11 points) and Amesha Miller (10 points) also had double-digit scoring outputs for the Spartans.
Te'ja Twitty gave the Spartans their lone lead of the game, 12-11, on her layup with 52 seconds left in the first quarter. Twitty came into Saturday's game averaging 11 points per game, but was held to just six points on 3-of-8 shooting from the floor. UNCG's leading scorer, Nadine Soliman (17.2 points per game), was held to just four points in the contest on 1-of-9 shooting.
The margin was only two, 44-42, with 1:06 left in the third, before Campbell went on a 28-12 spurt deep into the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach at 72-54 with 2:18 left. The stretch was capped off by Price's old-fashioned three-point play, which also put her at the 1,000-point plateau.
Campbell outrebounded UNCG, 36-23, including 25 defensive boards for the Orange and Black. The Camels edged the Spartans on points in the paint, 32-30, and off the points off the bench, 15-13.
MaKala Rouse capped off a 12-3 run in the second quarter that pushed the Campbell lead to double-digits for the first time in the game at 29-18 with 3:11 left in the half. UNCG responded with a 10-2 run to close the gap to three at the half, 31-28.
Campbell shot 13-of-22 (59.1 percent) from the floor and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe in the first half, as eight different scorers contributed for the Camels.
Price led all Campbell scorers through the opening half with eight points. Miller went 4-of-6 from the line for a game-high 10 points at the halftime break.
During the four-game winning streak, the Camels have led for 152:27 after leading for 38 minutes in today's contest. CU only trailed for 33 seconds on Saturday and have trailed for just 2:30 during the same span.
Campbell returns to the friendly confines of Gore Arena against Mercer on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7 p.m.
