Campbell falls to Norfolk State

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Kayla Roberts scored a game-high 18 points to lead Norfolk State to a 53-27 win over Campbell on  Monday evening inside Gore Arena.

The Spartans (5-5) shot 18-of-48 (37.5 percent) from the floor, while limiting Campbell (6-3) to its lowest output of the year on 7-of-48 shooting (14.6 percent).

With a four-point game after the first period at 10-6, Norfolk State used an 18-4 run in the second period to claim a 15-point lead at the half, 28-13.

NSU extended its lead to as many as 33 with 1:39 left in the contest, 53-20, after a Shayla Tanner layup to complete a 17-3 run in the second half.

The Camels closed the game on a 7-0 spree in the final 1:18 to reach the final score, equaling their scoring output for the first 18:42 of the half.

Roberts also snagged six rebounds, one shy of a game-high, posted by teammate Khadedra Croker who tallied seven along with five points and six blocks. Raven Russell posted six boards for the Spartans.

Tatyana Carver's eight points, six of which came from beyond the arc, led Campbell's offense. Alyshia Allison, Taya Bolden, and Summer Price all recorded a team-best four rebounds.

Hannah Long saw action for Campbell for the first time in five games, grabbing one rebound in 12 minutes of action.

The Spartans are just the second team to outrebound the Camels this season, as they held a 46-32 advantage on the glass. They also forced 19 turnovers, which they converted into 19 points.

CU's 27 points equals the lowest scoring output in program history, set on Feb. 21, 1974, when Campbell faced Western Carolina at the State Tournament in Greensboro, N.C., a 52-27 defeat.

Price's double-digit scoring streak was snapped in Monday's contest, as she was held scoreless (0-for-11) for the first time since Dec. 6, 2016 versus ETSU.

Campbell heads to North Carolina Central on Thursday with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
