JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Three Camels placed within the top-8 to advance to the finals on day one of the ETSU Indoor Track & Field Invitational on Friday.
Isis Brooks (60m and 200m),
Deonica Reid (60m) and
Janai Scott (400m) all qualified for the finals, which will take place tomorrow afternoon at the David E. Walker Track.
SPRINTS/HURDLES
Brooks placed sixth in both the 60m and 200m on Friday afternoon, with times of 7.82s and 25.49s, respectively. The Winston-Salem, N.C., native's time in the 200m is the best recorded by a CU student-athlete thus far in 2017-18.
She will compete in the finals of both events on Saturday, starting with the 60m at 3:20 p.m. and the 200m at 4:35 p.m. Brooks will wrap up the day as the second leg of the women's 4x400m relay at 5:30 p.m.
Reid will join Brooks in the tomorrow's 60m finals, after finishing in eighth place with a time of 7.83s after winning heat four by nine-tenths of a second. She just missed out on qualifying for the 200m finals, clocking in at 25.72s to place 11th.
Avonti Holt made her collegiate debut on Friday, finishing 13th in the 200m with a time of 25.75s and 18th in the 60m with a time of 7.97s.
Faith Lee also competed in both events for the Fighting Camels, placing 49th in the 60m (8.32s) and 49th in the 200m (27.27s).
Scott advanced to the finals of the 400m after running a lifetime best of 59.45s to place sixth among all competitors. She eclipsed her previous PR in the event (1:02.29) by nearly three seconds.
Samuel Adams was the top Camel in both the 60m and 200m. He ran a 7.03s in the 60m to place 19th and a season-best time of 22.46s in the 200m to finish in 20th place.
C. Daequon Carr made his season debut on Friday, placing in the top-55 of both the 60m and 200m. He finished 31st in the 60m (7.09s) and 55th in the 200m (23.33s).
Chigozie Atavwigho competed in both the 60m hurdles and 60m on Friday. He finished in 11th place in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.49s and 24th in the 60m with a time of 7.05s.
Four Camels competed in the men's 400m and all placed within the top-60 of the field.
Trevon Compito ran a personal best of 51.00s to finish in 15th place, while KaDeem Wynn ran a time of 51.52s to place 25th.
Collin Cooper clocked in at 51.98s to place 32nd and
Richard Benson finished 58th with a time of 53.75s in his collegiate debut.
THROWS
Andrew Ward placed 16th in the weight throw with a best mark of 14.12m on Saturday afternoon. The Meansville, Ga., native's mark is just 0.82m off of his school record mark of 14.94m, which he set at the UNCG Early Bird Duals on Dec. 3.
