CU takes on Presbyterian Saturday

Campbell notes
Campbell won its second league game in a row on Tuesday with a 58-49 home win over Charleston Southern. Summer Price led all scorers with 23 points, followed by MaKala Rouse's 13 points and nine rebound performance.

It was Price's sixth 20-plus point outing of the season, as she shot 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the floor. Campbell continued to pace the game, leading for more than 38 minutes in the contest, while Charleston Southern did not lead for the entire contest.

Campbell, which holds a 4-2 record on the road, is led by Price's 16.6 points per game. Rouse is second with a 7.4 per game clip. Rouse and Lauren McNamara-Clement lead all active players on the glass at 5.6 and 5.4 rebounds per game, respectively.

The scoring defense for Campbell is ranked No. 4 in the country at 52.5 points per game, only 4.7 points from the top spot, held by Green Bay. CU sits first in the Big South in assist-to-turnover ratio, field-goal percentage defense, rebound margin, rebounds per game, scoring defense and scoring margin.

Campbell is second in the league in assists per game, fewest turnovers, rebounds and three-point field goals attempted, made and per game.

Presbyterian Notes
Presbyterian enters Saturday's game having lost three in a row and four of its last five. The Blue Hose have won just three times this season, downing Furman in overtime (76-75), NC Central (69-60) and USC Upstate (83-69). PC has dropped each of its first three league contests, falling to High Point (81-55), Longwood (66-56) and Liberty (76-64).

Most recently against High Point, the Blue Hose had one scorer in double figures with Kiara Jackson scoring 10 points. PC allowed four double figure scorers during the contest on 51.7 percent (30-of-58) shooting from the Panthers.

PC's offense is led by Cortney Storey's 15.0 points per game in 14 contests. She also grabs 2.7 boards per outing, 0.8 from the team lead, which is held by Janie Miles at 3.5 per game.

Storey also has a team-high 73 assists (5.2 per game) and 22 steals (1.6 per game). She is an 83.3 percent (60-of-72) free throw shooter and a 44.7 percent (67-of-150) shooter from the floor.

Presbyterian has been outscored by an average of 74-57 in 14 games this season and allows opponents to shoot a 50.4 percent average from the floor, while only shooting 36.8 percent.

Previous Meeting
Campbell and Presbyterian met twice in 2017 with CU taking both games, including a 49-39 win at PC on Jan. 14, 2017.

2018 Big South play
Campbell has won back-to-back in conference play, defeating Winthrop (72-48) and Charleston Southern (58-49). Two scorers average in double figures, including Price's 14.3 points per game and Rouse's 10.3 clip per game. 


2017 Non-Conference
Campbell closed out non-conference play with a 7-4 record. CU allowed just 52.5 points per game, which ranked eighth best in the country. Bolden posted 10 rebounds or more five times and Price tallied 20-plus points in five games during the non-conference slate.

Freshmen Impact

It took just two games for all six freshmen to see playing time for CU. Five recorded at least 10 minutes of game time at Kansas, led by Carver's 22 minutes.

Against William Peace, Julia Crocker made her collegiate debut, knocking down a 3-pointer on her first shot of the game. Micaila Coleman has appeared in 9-of-10 games in 2017.

McNamara-Clement has started every game since Nov. 22 at College of Charleston, while Tatyana Carver earned her first start of the year at NC Central on Dec. 21. Ashlyn Hampton earned her first start of the year against UNC Asheville on Jan. 2.
 
Big South Weekly Awards
McNamara-Clement picked up the first weekly award of the season for the Orange and Black, earning Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 20. Price earned Player of the Week honors on Nov. 27. Hampton was named the freshman of the week for her performances to help CU sweep the weekly Big South awards. Hampton earned her second FOTW honor on Dec. 11. McNamara-Clement claimed her second FOTW honor on Dec. 18. CU has claimed 4-of-7 freshman of the week honors in 2017-18.

Bold On The Glass
Bolden has been a force on the glass, snagging at least 10 rebounds in six of the last nine games she has played in, including a career-high 14 against William Peace.

The Price Is Right
Price has led the Camels in scoring in 8-of-13 games this season. She has tallied double-digit scoring outputs in all but two contests this year.

Follow Us, We'll Lead The Way
Campbell led for 182:59 in the five games between Nov. 17 and Nov. 30. The Camels trailed for only 6:44 in that span. CU trailed in that category for the second time all season against WCU, only leading for 14:22, while trailing for 22:20. Campbell led for more than 39 minutes (39:17) against Columbia International and more than 36 minutes (36:24) at NC Central. They led for more than 37 minutes at Winthrop on Jan. 6 and more than 38 minutes versus Charleston Southern on Jan. 9.

1,000-Point Watch
Price reached the 1,000-point mark at UNCG on Nov. 25. She scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting to reach the milestone. Price tallied 416 points last season, 45 percent of her three-year career total.

Can You Hear Me Now?
During the 2017 Education Day game versus Columbia International, the rambunctious crowd surpassed 100 decibels inside Gore Arena. That level of noise is similar to that of a jackhammer or a power lawn mower.

Big South Preseason
The Camels were tabbed third in the Big South preseason poll, earning 77 points in the voting. Campbell finished four points ahead of fourth place High Point, and four points behind second place Liberty. Price and Rouse were named to the preseason second team all-conference.
 
2017-18 Camels
CU returns nine from last season, including its top four scorers, while adding six new faces to the squad. Price, Rouse, Bowns and Hannah Long pace the top four returning scorers for the Camels.

Hayley Barber, Breanna Foster, Taya Bolden, Sarah Smith and Alyshia Allison 
also return for the Orange and Black. Joining the squad is Coleman, Hampton, Carver, Davis and Crocker.
 
Campbell signs two for 2018
Head coach Ronny Fisher announced the signing of Shyanne "Shy" Tuelle and Lauren Carter to the 2018 incoming class.
 
Tuelle, a 5-10 guard, comes to Campbell from Hampton, Tenn., and Hampton High School. Carter, a 6-0 forward, joins the Camels from High Point, N.C., and Southwest Guilford High School.

Postseason Play
Campbell made its first postseason appearance in 17 years in 2017, as it earned a spot in the Women's Basketball Invitational. CU fell to St. Francis (Pa.), 79-68, on March 16 in tournament play.
 
Top Scoring Defense
Campbell finished the 2016-17 season with the top scoring defense in NCAA Division I, allowing just 49.6 points per game. The Camels held teams to just 47.8 points per game inside Gore Arena. CU tallied nine double-digit victories, holding opponents to under 40 points in five of those contests.
 
Big South 2016-17 Honors
Rouse was named the 2016-17 Big South Defensive Player of the Year. Rouse also earned honorable mention all-conference honors. Price earned second team honors and former Camel, Brianna Cribb, picked up all-academic honors.
