Camels fall to Panthers 62-53

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A trio of double-digit scorers helped High Point to a 62-53 victory over Campbell on Tuesday evening inside Gore Arena.

High Point's (11-5, 5-0) Kat Harris led all scorers with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting (50 percent), with Camryn Brown (15 points) and Shea Morgan (14 points) also scoring in double figures.

Summer Price led the Campbell (9-7, 2-3) offense with 10 points. Kyra Davis tallied nine points and eight rebounds, MaKala Rouse added nine points and six rebounds, and Ashlyn Hampton's contributed nine points for CU.

Campbell led by one, 39-38, with 3:52 left in the third quarter after Hampton connected on one of her four baskets. High Point responded as five different scorers paced them on a 13-1 run to take an 11-point lead, 51-40, early in the fourth.

The Camels got as close as five, 58-53, with one minute left in the contest, but four consecutive free throws by the Panthers put the game out of reach in the final ticks of the clock.

Each side used a long run to claim a multi-possession lead in the first half of play. With High Point holding an early five-point lead, 9-4, Davis led CU with five points on a 12-3 run to close the first quarter with a 16-12 lead.

Campbell held a 24-20 advantage midway through the second quarter, but High Point used a 12-4 run to enter the halftime break with a 32-28 lead. Brown led all scorers with 14 points at the break, while Price had a team-high eight for CU.

Campbell committed 18 turnovers in the contest, which High Point turned into 14 points. CU scored just four points off of 13 HPU turnovers.

The Orange and Black shot 45.5 percent (20-of-44) from the floor and held an 18-10 advantage in the paint. HPU shot four points less at a 41.2 clip (21-of-51), but held a slight edge on the glass, 28-27.

Up next, Campbell heads to Lynchburg, Va., on Saturday for a 6 p.m. tip-off at Liberty.
