BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – A trio of double figure scorers paced Campbell to a 73-44 victory at Gardner-Webb on Tuesday evening inside Paul Porter Arena.
MaKala Rouse's 18 points, along with
Summer Price's 17 points and
Kyra Davis' 11 points, led the Camels (10-8, 3-4) offensively Tuesday night, as CU snapped its three-game losing streak.
Campbell's 73 points is the most against a Big South opponent this season, while 44 is the lowest CU has allowed in a league game this season.
Gardner-Webb (13-6, 3-4) had a pair of double-digit scorers, led by Alexus Hill's 12 points. Tierra Huntsman also tallied double figures with 10 points.
Campbell shot 51.9 percent (27-52) from the field, the first time in three games CU has shot over 50 percent in a game.
The lead only grew in the second half for Campbell, as its 17-point lead increased to 23 after the third quarter. Gardner-Webb briefly cut CU's lead to under 20 points in the fourth quarter, but a 15-6 run increased the margin to 29 points.
Campbell finished the game with a 10-for-11 mark from the floor, while the defense held Gardner-Webb to just 2-for-10 shooting over the final 5:23.
Price led all scorers in the second half with 10 points, including a pair of late free throws after a technical was assessed to the home side.
Holding a 15-12 lead, Campbell marched on a 19-5 run to close the half and hold a commanding 34-17 lead after the opening 20 minutes of play. Gardner-Webb only led for 67 seconds in the half at 2-0 and 4-2.
Rouse led all eight Camel scorers in the first half with nine points on 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) shooting, along with four assists and four rebounds. Price added seven points for CU and
Ashlyn Hampton scored four.
Micaila Coleman made her first career start, scoring two points and grabbing three boards.
The Camels owned the glass on Tuesday, outrebounding the Runnin' Bulldogs, 45-32, led by
Hayley Barber's career-high 10 rebounds.
Rouse also snagged eight rebounds and assisted on five buckets. Price,
Caroline Bowns and Coleman each grabbed four rebounds on the night.
Campbell returns home on Saturday against Longwood with tip-off set for 2 p.m.
