BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Radford overcame a 10-point second half deficit to edge Campbell in overtime, 51-50, on Tuesday evening inside Gore Arena.
Janayla White led all scorers with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the team. Two others scored in double figures, as Jayda Worthy tallied 12 points and Destinee Walker added 10 points for the Highlanders (13-7, 6-3).
MaKala Rouse posted her second double-double of the year, tallying 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Lauren McNamara-Clement led the Camels (11-9, 4-5) in scoring with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting (50 percent).
Worthy scored the opening basket of the overtime session for the visitors, giving them their first lead the contest at 47-45. The lead grew to four, 51-47, before
Hayley Barber knocked down one of her two 3-pointers to pull CU within one, 51-50.
Radford had a chance to increase its advantage to three with eight seconds left in overtime, but Worthy missed both free throws, allowing Campbell one more opportunity. After a deflected pass went out of bounds with a few ticks left, Campbell setup inbounds play next to its bench, but the pass down to the low post was not gathered in time as the final horn ended the contest.
Radford's defense held Campbell to just 18 second half points on 22.7 percent (5-22) shooting, including a 6:33 drought to end the fourth quarter. Despite the strong defensive presence, Campbell's offense continued to hold the lead, never trailing in the second half and only being tied once with eight seconds left.
Campbell led for 19:21 and by as many as eight in the first half, including a 27-19 halftime advantage. McNamara-Clement led all scorers with seven points on 3-of-5 (60 percent) shooting from the floor in the opening half.
Radford held a slight edge in the paint, 12-8, but CU turned seven Highlander turnovers into six points during the opening 20 minutes. Campbell shot 35.7 percent (5-14) from long range in the first half and was 37.9 percent (11-29) overall.
The visitors bested Campbell in the paint, 34-18, and held a 16-8 advantage in points off of turnovers. CU turned 13 offensive rebounds into 13 points, while Radford scored just six points on 12 offensive boards.
Campbell was 7-23 (30.4 percent) from long range, while Radford was just 2-of-5 (40 percent). Radford outshot Campbell in the contest by eight points overall, 39.6 percent (21-53) to just 31.6 percent (18-57) for CU.
Campbell heads to in-state foe, High Point, on Saturday with tip-off set for 4 p.m.
