Campbell notes
Campbell dropped its Big South opener at home against UNC Asheville, 60-52, on Tuesday evening. MaKala Rouse and Ashlyn Hampton tallied double-figure scoring performances, but a double-double from Bronaza Fitzgerland paced the Bulldogs to the victory.
Rouse scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting and Hampton knocked down 5-of-7 from the floor for her season-high 12 points. Campbell led by as many as 14, but a 41-21 scoring differential in the second half pushed the visitors to the win.
Price continues to lead Campbell in scoring at 16.2 points per outing. MaKala Rouse sits second with 7.3 points per game for CU. She also leads with with 4.1 assists per game.
Bolden paces Campbell on the boards at 8.9 per game. Rouse follows with 5.5 per game and Lauren McNamara-Clement grabs 5.2 per outing. Rouse also leads the team with 4.5 assists per game.
The scoring defense for Campbell is top-10 in the country at 53.2 points per game, only 4.7 points from the top spot, held by Green Bay. CU sits first in the Big South in assist-to-turnover ratio, rebound margin, rebounds and scoring defense. CU is second in rebound margin and scoring margin.
Winthrop Notes
Winthrop enters Saturday's contest with just one win in 2017-18, a 94-50 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Nov. 15.
The Eagles have lost nine straight since the win, including a 78-52 loss at Radford to open conference play on Tuesday evening. Courtney Hagaman scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor and Ronata Rogers grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Eagles in the contest.
Kayla Brown leads the way with 9.4 points per game in eight outings for the Eagles. Emily Kelley is at 8.3 points per contest, followed by Hagaman's 7.9 clip. Rogers paces Winthrop on the glass at a 7.4 mark per game, with Anika Riley gathering 5.4 boards per game.
Winthrop has been outscored by an average of 26.5 points per contest, 76.8-50.3. The Eagles have been outscored by 96 points (8.0 ppg) and 90 points (7.5 ppg) in the second and fourth quarters, respectively.
Previous Meeting
Campbell and Winthrop met twice in 2016-17, with CU taking both contests by a combined 131-67 score. During the Feb. 14, 2017 contest in Rock Hill, Caroline Bowns scored a career-high 30 points, including a program-best nine 3-pointers.
2017 Non-Conference
Campbell closed out non-conference play with a 7-4 record. CU allowed just 52.5 points per game in, which ranked eighth best in the country. Bolden posted 10 rebounds or more five times and Summer Price tallied 20-plus points in five games during the non-conference slate.
Freshmen Impact
It took just two games for all six freshmen to see playing time for CU. Five recorded at least 10 minutes of game time at Kansas, led by Carver's 22 minutes.
Against William Peace,
Julia Crocker made her collegiate debut, knocking down a 3-pointer on her first shot of the game.
Micaila Coleman has appeared in 9-of-10 games in 2017.
McNamara-Clement has started every game since Nov. 22 at College of Charleston, while
Tatyana Carver earned her first start of the year at NC Central on Dec. 21.
Ashlyn Hampton earned her first start of the year against UNC Asheville on Jan. 2.
Big South Weekly Awards
McNamara-Clement picked up the first weekly award of the season for the Orange and Black, earning Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 20. Price earned Player of the Week honors on Nov. 27. Hampton was named the freshman of the week for her performances to help CU sweep the weekly Big South awards. Hampton earned her second FOTW honor on Dec. 11. McNamara-Clement claimed her second FOTW honor on Dec. 18. CU has claimed 4-of-7 freshman of the week honors in 2017.

Bold On The Glass
Bolden has been a force on the glass, snagging at least 10 rebounds in six of the last nine games she has played in, including a career-high 14 against William Peace.
The Price Is Right
Summer Price has led the Camels in scoring in 7-of-12 games this season. She has tallied double-digit scoring outputs in all but two contests this year.
Follow Us, We'll Lead The Way
Campbell led for 182:59 in the five games between Nov. 17 and Nov. 30. The Camels trailed for only 6:44 in that span. CU trailed in that category for the second time all season against WCU, only leading for 14:22, while trailing for 22:20. Campbell led for more than 39 minutes (39:17) against Columbia International and more than 36 minutes (36:24) at NC Central.
1,000-Point Watch
Price reached the 1,000-point mark at UNCG on Nov. 25. She scored a career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting to reach the milestone. Price tallied 416 points last season, 45 percent of her three-year career total.
Can You Hear Me Now?
During the 2017 Education Day game versus Columbia International, the rambunctious crowd surpassed 100 decibels inside Gore Arena. That level of noise is similar to that of a jackhammer or a power lawn mower.
Big South Preseason
The Camels were tabbed third in the Big South preseason poll, earning 77 points in the voting. Campbell finished four points ahead of fourth place High Point, and four points behind second place Liberty. Price and Rouse were named to the preseason second team all-conference.
2017-18 Camels
CU returns nine from last season, including its top four scorers, while adding six new faces to the squad. Price, Rouse, Bowns and Hannah Long pace the top four returning scorers for the Camels.
Hayley Barber, Breanna Foster, Taya Bolden, Sarah Smith and Alyshia Allison also return for the Orange and Black. Joining the squad is Coleman, Hampton, Carver, Davis and Crocker.
Campbell signs two for 2018
Head coach Ronny Fisher announced the signing of Shyanne "Shy" Tuelle and Lauren Carter to the 2018 incoming class.
Tuelle, a 5-10 guard, comes to Campbell from Hampton, Tenn., and Hampton High School. Carter, a 6-0 forward, joins the Camels from High Point, N.C., and Southwest Guilford High School.
Postseason Play
Campbell made its first postseason appearance in 17 years in 2017, as it earned a spot in the Women's Basketball Invitational. CU fell to St. Francis (Pa.), 79-68, on March 16 in tournament play.
Top Scoring Defense
Campbell finished the 2016-17 season with the top scoring defense in NCAA Division I, allowing just 49.6 points per game. The Camels held teams to just 47.8 points per game inside Gore Arena. CU tallied nine double-digit victories, holding opponents to under 40 points in five of those contests.
Big South 2016-17 Honors
Rouse was named the 2016-17 Big South Defensive Player of the Year. Rouse also earned honorable mention all-conference honors. Price earned second team honors and former Camel, Brianna Cribb, picked up all-academic honors.
