Michael Wooten has been around the game of football all his life, and is continuing to play the game that has impacted him so much. He recently had a conversation with
Kahlil Dixon.
Q: How old were you when you started to play football?
Wooten: I was 10 years old when I started playing with Princeton Little League Football, my dad was the head coach.
Q: Your dad is a referee for college football and formerly played in the NFL. Did that have any impact on you deciding to play football as you grew up?
Wooten: Definitely. I grew up around it my whole childhood, so that's all I wanted to do because of watching him.
Q: What other sports did you play growing up?
Wooten: I played baseball and basketball.
Q: We know football is your favorite sport but did either of those other sports come close to football?
Wooten: No, this is why I'm still playing football today in college. It just had such a great impact on me as a child.
Q: Coming in to college you played quarterback and now you play tight end, how has that transition affected you as a player?
Wooten: I think I'm able to know what everybody is doing on the offensive side of the ball and the defensive side. I was in those shoes of the quarterback's before and I was able to see the whole defense, so I know what's going on all over the field. I know not just my job but everybody else's job too.
Q: You've been here for your entire college football career so far, how would you describe this year's team compared to teams in the past?
Wooten: Every year I feel like we've grown one step closer to where we want this program to go and it just makes me excited for what the future holds for this program.
Q: What's been your favorite play of your career so far?
Wooten: That would have to be my 70 yard touchdown reception last year against Valpo. It's probably the longest touchdown of my career ever in football.
Q: Outside of football, how do you spend your time?
Wooten: Just hanging out with friends, family, and just hanging out or watching football.
Q: What do you plan on doing when you graduate?
Wooten: I'm trying to go to graduate school and be a physical therapist, so going to PT school and getting my doctorate in physical therapy.
