CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – After trailing by as many as 26 points, Campbell women's basketball pulled back to within 12 points, but Boston College came out the victor in a 76-56 decision on Friday night inside the Silvio O. Conte Forum.
Campbell suffered its first road loss of the season, falling to 7-3 on the year, while Boston College improved to 10-2.
Boston College led by 26 (45-19) at the 5:54 mark of the third quarter but Campbell outscored BC 31-17 to cut the lead to 12 (62-50) with 5:50 remaining. The Eagles closed out the game on a 14-6 run to go away with the 20-point win.
After shooting just 10 percent in the first quarter, the Black & Orange improved their shooting percentage each quarter: 38 percent in the second quarter, 46 percent in the third quarter and then 55 percent in the fourth quarter. Campbell went 0-of-2 from beyond the arc in the first period before shooting 7-of-12 over the final three periods.
Excluding the 18-3 first quarter, Boston College only outscored Campbell by five points (58-53) over the final three frames.
Boston College held the advantage in rebounds (38-29), turnovers (20-15), points in the paint (48-20) and fast break points (12-4). Campbell's bench outscored BC's bench, 32-12.
Shy Tuelle finished with a career-high 11 points, which included a perfect 5-for-5 effort at the free-throw line. The freshman also knocked down two three's. Hayley Barber and Taya Bolden posted nine points apiece; Bolden also pulled down eight boards, which led all players.
Breanna Foster did not miss from the floor, scoring eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, including a 2-for-2 effort from beyond the arc. Lauren Carter also had eight points, knocking down one trifecta while going 3-of-5 at the charity stripe.
Four Eagles reached double-figures, led by Emma Guy who scored a game-high 25 points. Marnelle Garraud (13), Georgia Pineau (11) and Taylor Ortlepp (10) joined Guy in double-digit scoring.
Just nine seconds in the game, Barber knocked down a short-corner jumper to give the Camels an early 2-0 advantage, but Boston College closed out the final nine minutes of the first quarter on an 18-1 run.
Campbell outscored the Eagles 16-15 in the second quarter. Following a BC turnover at the 5:02 mark, Ashlyn Hampton's lay-up sparked an 11-3 spurt to close out the half. Campbell forced seven turnovers, scored nine off those miscues and held BC scoreless over the final 2:22 of the first half.
Carter, Foster and Tuelle each made a three in the third quarter as Campbell shot 3-of-4 from beyond the arc. The Camels closed out the period by making six of their final seven shots, while not allowing Boston College to make a field goal over the last 3:34.
Both teams had their best shooting performances in the fourth quarter as BC shot 63 percent (10-for-16) and CU shot 55 percent (6-for-11).
Next up, the Camels will close out the nonconference portion of their schedule with a Sunday afternoon match-up vs. Columbia College on Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. Fans can bring any church bulletin for a buy-one get-one deal at the ticket office.
