Campbell downs Presbyterian 53-40 Tuesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A 14-2 run in the fourth quarter helped Campbell to a 53-40 win over Presbyterian Tuesday evening inside Gore Arena.
 
Summer Price scored a game-high 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting (46.2 percent). Lauren McNamara-Clement added 10 points on 5-of-7 (71.4 percent) shooting and Hannah Long returned to action, scoring eight points and grabbing three boards.
 
After missing the last 14 games, Long played seven minutes in the final quarter, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from the field. All eight of Long's points came during Campbell's fourth quarter run that spanned 4:36 in the period.  
 
The Camels (13-11, 6-7) led for 33:39 in the contest and by as many as 15 after Micaila Coleman's lay-in with seven seconds left. The freshman scored five points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, including six on the offensive end. She also dished out four assists and tallied four steals.
 
Presbyterian (8-16, 5-8) closed the gap to one after the third quarter, posting a 10-2 run over a 5:06 stretch, led by five of Cortney Storey's team-high 15 points. Storey also led the game with eight boards, all on the defensive end.
 
The Blue Hose briefly reclaimed the lead 38 seconds into the fourth quarter, but the first of four buckets from Long flipped momentum in favor of the Camels, who took a 10-point lead four minutes later.
 
Price and McNamara-Clement led the way for Campbell in the first half, scoring eight points apiece and combining for six rebounds. As a team, Campbell shot 9-of-22 (40.9 percent) from the floor and limited Presbyterian to just 7-of-26 (26.9 percent) shooting in the first half.
 
Campbell turned 11 Presbyterian turnovers into 11 points. Despite nine CU turnovers, the defense held Presbyterian scoreless in the same category.
 
Campbell shot 41.6 percent from the field, including 9-of-17 (52.9 percent) in the 21-point fourth quarter. The NCAA's No. 3 defense limited Presbyterian to 25 percent shooting (13-of-52), including 17.2 percent (5-of-29) from downtown.
 
The Camels had a large contribution from its bench, as Long and McNamara-Clement combined for 18 of CU's 23 points in relief.
 
Hands were active for Campbell on Tuesday night, combining for 10 steals and four blocks in the contest. In total, CU turned 17 PC turnovers into 16 points, a 12-point advantage over the visitors.
 
Campbell heads to Farmville, Va., for a noon tip-off against Longwood on Saturday.
