CU welcomes Winthrop for Senior Day

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell hosts Winthrop for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon in Gore Arena. Seniors Summer Price, MaKala Rouse, and Sarah Smith will be honored pregame, as well as senior managers Hanna Meready and Garrick King.

Campbell notes
Campbell has dropped four of its last five games, after a 38-33 loss at UNC Asheville Tuesday evening. Summer Price led Campbell in scoring for the fifth straight game, tallying 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting (45.4 percent) and grabbing eight boards. Kyra Davis scored seven, while posting a team-high nine rebounds.

Campbell led by two after three quarters of play, 27-25, but a 10-2 run throughout the final frame, including six points from Bree Fitzgerald, pushed the Bulldogs ahead for good.

Price leads the league and Campbell offense at 15.4 points per game. Rouse is second on the squad with 7.8 per game. Rouse and McNamara-Clement lead all active players on the glass at 5.9 and 4.7 rebounds per game, respectively. Kyra Davis is third in rebounds (4.5).

Rouse leads the team in conference play with 5.9 rebounds through 12 league games and is second with 8.9 points per league game, second to Price's 14.1, Kyra Davis follows with 4.4 rebounds per conference game.

Campbell's scoring defense is ranked No. 3 in the country at 52.0 points per game, 5.2 points from the top spot, held by Green Bay. CU sits first in the Big South in field-goal percentage defense (6th nationally), three-point field goal defense, and scoring defense.

Campbell is second in the league in assists per game, rebounds per game, three-point field goals attempted/made/per-game.

Winthrop notes
Winthrop sits in last place in the Big South standings, having won just one conference game on the year, a 69-60 overtime win against Longwood on Jan. 30.

The Eagles only have one other win on the year, a 94-50 win over NC Wesleyan on Nov. 15, 2017. Most recently, Winthrop lost back-to-back home games to Liberty (73-53) and Radford (70-30).

Courtney Hagaman scored 19 points to lead the team in the loss to Liberty and Anika Riley posted a team-high nine points against Radford.

Hagaman leads the team in scoring at 9.5 points per game in 24 outings. Ronata Rogers has played in 25 games this year and averages 7.8 points for the Eagles. Anika Riley has appeared in every game this season and averages 7.0 points per game.

As a team, Winthrop shoots 33.4 percent from the floor, while opponents shoot a solid 43.0 percent. Teams outshoot Winthrop from long range, 31.7 percent to 27.8. Opponents also outrebound the Eagles by a 43.2 to 35.9 margin.

Previous Meeting
Campbell and Winthrop met on Jan. 6 in Rock Hill, a 72-48 win for the Camels.

2018 Big South play
Campbell fell at UNC Asheville, 38-33, and have lost four of the last five. Price leads the way with 14.1 points per conference outing, including 23 vs. Charleston Southern. Ashlyn Hampton has 5.9 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per conference game. MaKala Rouse also averages 5.9 rebounds per conference game. Kyra Davis averages 6.7 points and 4.4 boards per league game.

2017 Non-Conference
Campbell closed out non-conference play with a 7-4 record. CU allowed just 52.5 points per game, which ranked eighth best in the country. Bolden posted 10 rebounds or more five times and Price tallied 20-plus points in five games during the non-conference slate.

Freshmen Impact
It took just two games for all six freshmen to see playing time for CU. Five recorded at least 10 minutes of game time at Kansas, led by Carver's 22 minutes.

Against William Peace, Julia Crocker made her collegiate debut, knocking down a 3-pointer on her first shot of the game. Micaila Coleman has appeared in 9-of-10 games in 2017.

McNamara-Clement has started every game since Nov. 22 at College of Charleston, while Carver earned her first start of the year at NC Central on Dec. 21. Hampton earned her first start of the year against UNC Asheville on Jan. 2. Micaila Coleman garnered her first start of the year at Gardner-Webb on Jan. 23.

Big South Weekly Awards
McNamara-Clement picked up the first weekly award of the season for the Orange and Black, earning Freshman of the Week honors on Nov. 20. Price earned Player of the Week honors on Nov. 27. Hampton was named the freshman of the week for her performances to help CU sweep the weekly Big South awards. Hampton earned her second FOTW honor on Dec. 11. McNamara-Clement claimed her second FOTW honor on Dec. 18. CU has claimed 4-of-7 freshman of the week honors in 2017-18.

Bold On The Glass
Bolden has been a force on the glass, snagging at least 10 rebounds in six of the last nine games she has played in, including a career-high 14 against William Peace.

The Price Is Right
Price has led the Camels in scoring in 15-of-24 games this season. She has scored 10+ points in all but five contests this year. Averaging 15.7 points per game this season, Price leads the Big South in scoring average. Price moved into the top-10 in scoring with her performances during the Feb. 5-11 game week. She is currently in ninth place in the Campbell scoring ranks.

Follow Us, We'll Lead The Way
Campbell led for 182:59 in the five games between Nov. 17 and Nov. 30. The Camels trailed for only 6:44 in that span. CU trailed in that category for the second time all season against WCU, only leading for 14:22, while trailing for 22:20. Campbell led for more than 39 minutes (39:17) against Columbia International and more than 36 minutes (36:24) at NC Central. They led for more than 37 minutes at Winthrop on Jan. 6 and more than 38 minutes versus Charleston Southern on Jan. 9.

1,000-Point Watch
Price reached the 1,000-point mark at UNCG on Nov. 25. She scored a then career-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting to reach the milestone. Price tallied 416 points last season, 45 percent of her three-year career total.

Can You Hear Me Now?
During the 2017 Education Day game versus Columbia International, the rambunctious crowd surpassed 100 decibels inside Gore Arena. That level of noise is similar to that of a jackhammer or a power lawn mower.

Big South Preseason
The Camels were tabbed third in the Big South preseason poll, earning 77 points in the voting. Campbell finished four points ahead of fourth place High Point, and four points behind second place Liberty. Price and Rouse were named to the preseason second team all-conference.

2017-18 Camels
CU returns nine from last season, including its top four scorers, while adding six new faces to the squad. Price, Rouse, Bowns and Hannah Long pace the top four returning scorers for the Camels.

Hayley Barber, Breanna Foster, Bolden, Sarah Smith and Alyshia Allison also return for the Orange and Black. Joining the squad is Coleman, Hampton, Carver, Davis and Crocker.
