BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell women's soccer head coach
Samar Azem has announced the signing of nine student-athletes to the 2018 class.
The 2018 signing class is composed of Emma Bushee, Jessica Donald, Reaghan Duval, Kristen Jensen, Bianca Mandrini, Ruthie Riley, Carson Schoeppe, Cameron Turner and Kirsten Underwood. CU's signees reign from six different states, including California, Florida, Georgia, New York, North Carolina and South Carolina.
The nine newcomers will join the 19 returning letter winners from the Camels' 2017 squad in August in preparation for the 2018 season.
"We've set a strong foundation with our current team," said head coach
Samar Azem. "Our staff spent a significant amount of time watching and getting to know our incomers. We are excited about the dynamic they add."
Azem continued, "Each player will allow us to be stronger in every position and the class will enhance our competitiveness and the quality of soccer we execute. Once we see the synergy of this class with our current team, I feel we have some very exciting things ahead."
Emma Bushee | 5-1 | Midfielder | San Marcos, Calif. | San Marcos HS | LA Galaxy San Diego Development Academy
Bushee is a product of the San Marcos, Calif., where she played club soccer for LA Galaxy San Diego Development Academy under the direction of Greg LaPorte. She helped lead her team to the US Youth Soccer National League Championships in 2016.
During the 2017-18 season, she played 17 games, including 14 starts, and scored one goal for the Galaxy.
The midfielder played varsity soccer for the San Marcos High School during her junior and senior seasons, playing a total of 41 games for the Knights. She notched five goals and five assists for the Knights in 2017 to help lead her squad to a 22-2-4 record and an appearance in the CIF Southern California Regional Championship final.
Jessica Donald | 5-8 | Forward | Tully, N.Y. | Tully HS | Syracuse Development Academy
Donald will come to Campbell by way of Tully High School and the Syracuse Development Academy. She played club soccer under the guidance of Tommy Tanner (2015-16), Michael Paolini (2016-17) and Michael Kirmse (2017-18) alongside fellow CU signee Kirsten Underwood.
The forward helped lead SDA to three-consecutive New York State Championships (2015-17), two US Youth Soccer Region 1 Semifinal Appearances (2015, 2017) and a US Youth Soccer Region 1 Championship (2016). In addition, the Syracuse Development Academy made an appearance in the US Youth Soccer National Championship (2016) and National Primer League Semifinal (2015) during Donald's time with the team.
The Tully, N.Y., native played five years of varsity soccer at Tully High School under the direction of Sue Reilly, starting in seventh grade. Donald has tallied a total of 64 goals, 56 assists and 184 points for the Black Knights, including a career-best of 22 goals as a senior.
Reaghan Duval | 5-7 | Goalkeeper | Goshen, N.Y. | Goshen Central HS | Match Fit Academy FC
Duval is a native of Goshen, N.Y., where she played club soccer for Match Fit Academy FC under the direction of Dominick Bucci. She posted a 5-1 record in goal in 2017-18 to lead her squad to an overall record of 8-4.
She served as the starting goalkeeper for Goshen Central High School for three seasons, notching an overall record of 39-7-1 between the posts with 15 shutouts. As a senior, she only conceded nine goals and recorded 44 saves.
The Gladiators won four consecutive Section IX Class A titles (2013-17), five straight Division 3 Championships (2013-18) and advanced to the State Semifinal twice (2013, 2015) during Duval's tenure with the team.
Kristen Jensen | 5-4 | Midfielder | Raleigh, N.C. | Leesville Road HS | NCFC 00 Elite
Jensen is a local product out of Raleigh, N.C., where she plays club soccer for NCFC 00 Elite under the direction of Dave Arensdorf. She captained the 2016-17 squad, helping lead the team to its third consecutive appearance in the US Youth Soccer Regionals.
The midfielder also helped lead her club team to a WAGS Tournament championship and State Cup Championship in 2014, as well as a trip to the finals of the State Cup in 2015.
She has participated in the U.S. Soccer training program (2015), the NC Olympic Development Program Region 3 Camp (2013-15), the NC Olympic Development Sub-Regional Event (2013-15) and U.S. Youth Soccer National League (2014-18).
The Raleigh, N.C., native attended Leesville Road High School, where she was a three-year member of the varsity team under the direction of Paul Dinkenor. She helped lead the Pride to a Co-Conference Championship in 2016 after the team went 10-1-2 during the regular season.
Bianca Mandrini | 5-2 | Forward | Miami, Fla. | Coral Reef Senior HS | Sunrise SC
Mandrini is a native of Miami, Fla., where she played club soccer for the Sunrise SC under the tutelage of Andres Camacho and Gus Camacho. She helped lead the team to a Florida Youth Soccer Association State Cup Championship divisional title in 2017.
The forward attended Coral Reef Senior High School, where she plays varsity soccer under the direction of Dino Nuñez. As a senior, she has connected on 29 goals in 17 games thus far during her senior season for a goals per game average of 1.7. She has led her squad to a record of 17-0-2 and a berth in the FHSAA State Championships.
Ruthie Riley | 5-4 | Defender | Richmond Hill, Ga. | Richmond Hill HS | Tormenta FC
Riley comes to Campbell by way of Richmond Hill High School and Tormenta FC. She played club soccer under the guidance of Jeremy Aven and alongside fellow Campbell 2018 signee Carson Schoeppe.
The defender helped lead Tormenta FC to a third place finish in the South Carolina State Cup in 2016 and a second place finish in 2017.
She plays varsity soccer for Richmond Hill High School, where she played for four-years under the direction of Steve Coleman and Rusty Heintz. Riley has helped lead the Wildcats to an overall record of 44-14-3 during her first three years with the program.
Carson Schoeppe | 5-5 | Midfielder | Hilton Head Island, S.C. | Hilton Head Island HS | Tormenta FC
Schoeppe is a product of Hilton Head Island, S.C., where she played for Tormenta FC under the direction of Jeremy Aven. The team won the Athena A division in 2014, the South Carolina State Cup in 2016 and placed second in the Region 3 Premier League in 2017.
The midfielder attended Hilton Head Island High School, where she played four years of varsity soccer under the tutelage of Ernie Suozzi. She helped lead the 2017 Seahawk squad to a 16-5-2 record and a second consecutive appearance in the SCHSL Class 4A Championship final four.
The midfielder was named to the all-conference, all-region and all-state teams in the spring of 2017 at Hilton Head Island. She was also selected to the all-tournament team at the Crescent Cup and was picked as the team MVP as a junior.
Cameron Turner | 5-5 | Forward | Kissimmee, Fla. | Poinciana HS | Florida Kraze Krush
Turner is a native of Kissimmee, Fla., where she played club soccer for the Florida Kraze Krush under the guidance of Hue Menzies. In 2017, she was selected as the Senior Select Player of the Year for the Kraze.
The forward attended Poinciana High School, where she played varsity soccer under the guidance of Chelsie Haas and Tony Molina. She served as the team captain for the Eagles during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
As a senior, Turner helped lead her squad to an 11-6-1 record and a berth in the FHSAA State Championship for the first time in school history.
Kirsten Underwood | 5-9 | Midfielder | Cazenovia, N.Y. | Cazenovia HS | Syracuse Development Academy
Underwood will come to Campbell by way of Cazenovia High School and the Syracuse Development Academy, where she played club soccer under the direction of Michael Paolini. She helped lead the SDA to a State Cup championship, US Youth Soccer Region 1 U16 Championship and a National League Disney Championship in 2016.
The midfielder went to Cazenovia High School, where she trained under the direction of Keith Comfort (2012-13), Kassie Kleine (2015) and Kaleen Sessler (2016-17). Across three years of varsity soccer, she netted 23 goals and 18 assists for a total of 64 points.
The Cazenovia, N.Y., native served as the team captain of the 2017 squad and was named the Offensive Player of the Year. She helped lead the Lakers to a berth in the Section 3 Semifinals during the 2015 season.
