BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell closes out its regular season road schedule this weekend as the Camels head west to take on Appalachian State on Friday followed by UNC Asheville on Sunday. Friday's match against the Mountaineers is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. while Sunday's matchup with the Bulldog is set for 10:00 a.m.
Campbell enters the weekend ranked third in the Big South Conference standings with a 4-1 record. The Camels sit behind first placed Winthrop (5-0) and Liberty (4-0). Winthrop has two conference matches remaining against Liberty and Presbyterian. The Blue Hose sit in fourth place behind the Camels. Campbell closes out the 2018 regular season and league schedule on April 12 against Liberty.
Most recently Campbell defeated Radford, 6-1, for the team's eighth win in its last nine appearances.
Dustin Werner secured his eighth straight win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3. The junior ranks first in the Big South in overall singles results at No. 3 with a perfect 7-0 record. With a 10-3 overall record, the German ranks third in the conference in overall singles results and remains undefeated in conference play with a 5-0 mark.
Gerard Sola picked up his second win in a row with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 5. At the court, the Spaniard sits tied for first place in the conference with a 5-2 mark alongside Gardner-Webb's Adam Schmidt. In conference action, the junior holds a 5-2 mark to go along with his 8-7 overall record.
All three Campbell doubles pairs rank second in the conference at their respective courts.
Lorenz Schwab and
Dustin Werner rank second at No. 1 with a 7-2 record behind Asheville's Olly Cull and Henry Patton who boast a perfect 10-0 record.
At No. 2,
Jonathan O'Neal and
Gerard Sola have won seven straight matchups which has helped them to jump to the second spot in the conference. The duo sports a 4-1 conference record as a part of their 8-6 overall mark. In their last 10 matches, the pair holds an 8-2 mark.
Closing it out at No. 3, Luois Monterosso and
Lukas Schaefer rank second with a 5-2 record. The pair has won two consecutive matchups and hold a 5-2 overall mark with a 3-1 record in Big South play.
Appalachian State (10-9, 0-1 Sun Belt) most recently fell to Big South Conference member Winthrop 4-3. Campbell fell to Winthrop 6-1 earlier in the season.
Scott Webster leads the Mountaineers with a 13-4 overall record with all 13 wins coming at No. 1. Over his last 10 matches he holds a 9-1 record and has won two consecutive matchups.
UNC Asheville (7-9, 2-3 Big South) is set to take on Gardner-Webb on Thursday, April 5 before it welcomes Campbell to town on Sunday. Asheville ranks sixth in the Big South standings ahead of Gardner-Webb and Radford.
At No. 1, Henry Patton ranks third with an 8-3 mark. As previously mentioned, he has also paired with Olly Cull for a perfect 10-0 mark a No. 1 in doubles action.
After the weekend, Campbell closes out the regular season on Thursday, April 12 as it hosts Liberty at 2:00 p.m. in the Creek.
