Camels face No. 16 HPU in Big South semis

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell will take on No. 16 High Point Friday in the Big South Championship semifinals. The matchup is set for a 4 p.m. start at HPU's Vert Stadium.

The game will be a rematch of last season's conference championship game.

Fourth-seeded Campbell (9-9) is coming off a record-setting 23-11 win over Radford in the conference's quarterfinals. In addition to a single-game record for team goals, the Camels posted Big South single-game tournament records for goals, points (36) and draw controls (25) against the Highlanders.

With 11 assists, Kayla Reilly set an individual program record for single-game points and assists, the senior also tied the NCAA single-game record for assists, breaking the Big South's mark, while tying the conference's tournament game record for points.

Mackenzie Koeller's eight goals also tied a Big South tournament game record, while Melissa Placek's 13 draw controls set a new Big South tournament game standard, tying the Campbell single-game record for the second time this season.

Campbell's 36 points also tied a school single-game mark. For the year, Campbell has set team single-season records for goals (240) and draw controls (273).

Six Camels collected All-Big South honors, announced by the league on last week, with Koeller, a senior attacker, repeating as Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Koeller was also named to the league's all-academic team, while Placek, Megan Reilly and Sam Carey all received First Team All-Big South nods. Kayla Reilly was a Second Team All-Big South pick, while Amanda Chasin took honorable mention accolades.

Kayla Reilly owns a team-high 75 points with a single-season school record 52 assists to go along with 23 goals. Placek owns a team-best 64­ goals, just behind Loren Day's 2016 single-season CU record of 67, while Koeller owns 60 goals.

Megan Reilly has collected 44 ground balls and caused 28 turnovers, both single-season school records, and Chasin has recorded 36 ground balls and issued 18 forced miscues. Sydney Etheridge has snagged 115 saves.

High Point, ranked No. 16 in the nation in this week's Inside Lacrosse poll, coming into the Big South Championships with 14-straight wins and carrying a 15-2 overall record. HPU is coming off a 13-9 nonconference win at Hofstra after finishing the Big South slate 7-0.

Brooke Stevens leads the Panthers on the offensive end with 77 points on 45 assists and 32 goals, while Abby Hormes owns a team-high 51 goals. Erica Perrotta has caused 39 turnovers with 35 ground balls, adding 44 goals.

The Camels and Panthers will be meeting for the second time this season. HPU took an 18-9 win in Buies Creek on April 4, handing Campbell its first Big South loss of the year.

No. 3 Winthrop will face No. 2 Liberty at 7 p.m. All remaining games in the tournament will be held at HPU's Vert Stadium.

The Big South title game is set for a noon start on Sunday, May 6.
