Campbell (10-4, 2-2) became the first Big South team to reach 10 wins this season by defeating Charleston Southern 60-58 last Thursday. Freshman Lauren Carter scored 10 fourth-quarter point (12 total) while shooting 6-for-9 from the field. The Camels dropped a 60-52 decision to UNC Asheville last Saturday.
Carter continues to pace the Campbell offense as she enters Tuesday's contest with an 8.9 ppg clip. She is one of four Big South freshmen that ranks in the top-30 of conference scorers.
In CU's four league games, Shyanne Tuelle is shooting 7-for-13 (.538) from three, while averaging a team-high 8.8 ppg. The freshman from Hampton, Tenn., has also gone 13-for-13 at the free-throw line over her last nine games, including 6-for-6 in conference action.
Defensive Camels
Campbell leads the Big South and is 19th nationally in scoring defense, holding opponents to just 55.5 ppg. The Camels also rank 35th nationally in field-goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to only shoot 35.6 percent from the field.
Under Ronny Fisher, CU has finished in the top three in the NCAA in points allowed in each of the past two years. In 2016-17, the Camels claimed the program's first-ever NCAA statistical championship by holding opponents to a Division I-low 49.6 ppg. The 2017-18 squad finished 15-15, again fielding an elite defense, allowing 51.9 ppg, which ranked third in all of NCAA Division I.
Marginal Rebounding
Campbell leads the Big South and ranks 53rd nationally with a +5.7 rebounding margin (40.7 to 35.0). The Camels are one of four Big South teams that own a positive rebounding margin. The Camels are joined in the positive by: High Point (+10.8), Gardner-Webb (+4.6) and Radford (+2.7).
Winthrop Notes
Winthrop (6-9, 2-2) dropped its previous two conference games to USC Upstate and Radford after winning its first two over Longwood and Charleston Southern. Three Eagles average over 8.0 ppg: Kem Nwabudu (8.6), Jah'Che Whiteld (8.5) and Anika Riley (8.2).
Series Notes
Campbell and Winthrop meet for the 39th time on Tuesday; Campbell owns a 28-10 advantage. CU has won the previous five meetings by a margin of 22.6 points (65.8 to 43.2).
