Camels Kick Off 2019 Spring Season in Richmond, VA

BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Campbell begins their 2019 spring season this weekend against VCU and Drexel on Saturday. Saturday's match against Drexel is scheduled for 12:00 pm followed by VCU at 4:00 pm in Richmond Virginia.

Campbell's Women's Tennis team highlights seven returning players led by head coach Michelle Dasso who is entering her first year as head coach of the Women's Tennis team. Dasso became head coach of the Camels in August 2018 after serving as the head coach at Illinois and as an assistant at her alma mater Notre Dame, Northwestern and Duke.

The team's prediction to take second in the Big South Conference standings comes after the Camels advancement to the Big South semifinals a season ago. The Camels Big South record, 14-8, 6-2, was their best overall record since their 2008 season, where they finished 16-8. CU's conference record serves as the team's best conference record since the program rejoined the Big South in 2012.

The Camels will be led by First Team All-Conference members, Lou Regen (singles) and Isabel Boada (doubles), in addition to Ana Castillo, the Big South Freshman of the Year. Other team leaders include Alexandra Nicoara, who represented the Camels on the All-Academic Team. The team welcomes two newcomers,  Lucile Pons and Inma Ramon.

Setting up Drexel:

The Dragons are coming off of a 15-5 overall campaign before falling to Elon, 4-0, in the Quarterfinals of the CAA Championships on the 20th of April, 2018 in Elon, N.C.

Setting up VCU:

The Rams are coming off of a 17-6 overall record and an Atlantic 10 Conference title following a 4-2 win against Massachusetts in the conference title match. VCU went on to fall to Virginia in a 4-2 loss in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Columbia, SC.
