Camels look to bounce back at Longwood Tuesday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. Campbell women's hoops travels to Longwood for a Tuesday night Big South match-up in Farmville, Va.

Top Notes

In Campbell's most recent outing, the Camels led first-place Radford over the entirety of the first half, but was outscored 28-21 in the second half to ultimately fall 56-52 on Saturday. Shy Tuelle reached double-figures (12) for the sixth time in her career against RU.

Lauren Carter continues to pace the Campbell offense as she enters Tuesday's contest with a 9.2 points-per-game average, which ranks fourth among Big South freshmen and ranks 28th overall. Carter's 10 blocked shots in conference play leads conference rookies and ranks fourth overall.

In conference games, Tuelle leads the Camels, averaging 10.0 points a game with a .405 shooting percentage from three. Her 17-for-42 effort from beyond the arc leads all Big South freshman and ranks fourth in the league.

Defensive Camels

Overall, Campbell leads the Big South and is 19th nationally in scoring defense, holding opponents to 55.7 points a game. In conference-only games, Campbell owns a 55.2 points-per-game clip, which ranks second.

Campbell's 42 blocks in league games leads the conference, while its average of 5.3 blocks per game ranks second behind Hampton (5.4 bpg).

The Camels are third in the conference in field goal percentage defense, keeping Big South opponents to 35.9 percent from the field. Campbell's overall defensive field-goal percentage of 36.1 percent ranks 40th nationally.

Notorious Defense Under Fisher

Under Ronny Fisher, CU has finished in the top three in the NCAA in points allowed each of the past two years. In 2016-17, the Camels claimed the program's first-ever NCAA statistical championship by holding opponents to a Division I-low 49.6 ppg. The 2017-18 squad finished 15-15, again fielding an elite defense, allowing 51.9 ppg, which ranked third in all of NCAA Division I.

Marginal Rebounding

Campbell leads the Big South and is 56th nationally with a +5.3 rebounding margin (40.9 to 35.7). In conference-only games, the Camels rank fourth in the Big South with a +4.9 rebounding margin (41.1 to 35.9).

Longwood Notes

Longwood enters Tuesday's contest on a 14-game skid, which includes a seven-game losing streak in Big South play. Dayna Rouse leads the Lancers offensively, averaging 13.2 points per game. In conference games, Longwood ranks eighth in rebounding maring with a -3.7 mark (36.4 to 40.1).

Series Notes

Campbell has won nine of the previous 11 meetings between the two sides and owns a 15-5 advantage overall. Longwood won the most recent meeting in overtime on its home court: Feb. 17, 2018 (57-50).

Upcoming Schedule Note

Following Tuesday's game, Campbell will take a week-long break from competition before hosting new Big South member USC Upstate on Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 7 p.m.
