BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Taya Bolden paired 10 points with 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, but the Campbell women's basketball team fell to Gardner-Webb, 52-38, on Tuesday night inside Gore Arena.
Bolden's double-double is the seventh of her career. Kyra Davis pulled down eight boards and Hayley Barber tied a season-high with nine points.
Gardner-Webb (7-6, 1-0) never trailed, pushing its lead to as many as 13 and forced 20 turnovers with 14 steals. Campbell (9-4, 1-1) shot just 27 percent, their lowest shooting effort this season, but did hold the advantage in rebounds (42-33).
Both teams had their best shooting performances in the second quarter as they both shot 50 percent: Gardner-Webb made 7-of-14 while Campbell went 4-of-8 from the floor.
GWU went into the final quarter with an 11-point advantage, 36-25. Tuelle knocked down a jumper on CU's first possession, but the Bulldogs responded with their own lay-in and a three to go up 41-27, forcing Campbell to call a timeout with 7:42 to go.
Out of the timeout, the Camels went on a quick 5-0 spurt; however, the Bulldogs closed out the game on an 11-5 run to pull away with the 52-38 final decision.
Later this week, the Camels will continue Big South action with road trips to Charleston Southern (Jan. 10 at 7 p.m.) and UNC Asheville (Jan. 12 at 2 p.m.).
