CU sweeps Asheville, moves to 4-1 in Big South play

BUIES CREEK, N.C. Campbell University volleyball improved to 4-1 in Big South Conference play with a three-set sweep of the UNC Asheville Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.

Campbell's 4-1 start in Big South action is its best start to a conference schedule since the 2009 team also went 4-1 over its first five Atlantic Sun Conference matches.

Five Fighting Camels logged seven or more kills in the win, led by Sarah Colla's 12 kills; Colla committed just one error across 20 attacks for a .550 hitting percentage. Allena Heath added nine kills, Melody Paige had eight kills, and both Ananda Patterson and Lailah Green logged seven kills. Patterson did make an error over 16 attacks, earning a .438 attacking percentage.

Emily Mitter dished out 21 assists, her sixth match this season with 20-plus assists. Madee Miner also helped pace the offense, distributing 18 assists.

Miner also had a match-high three service aces as the Fighting Camels finished with seven service aces.

Elyse Gross and Grace Kane logged double-digit digs, recording 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

Campbell will travel to South Carolina next weekend to face Charleston Southern and Presbyterian. The Fighting Camels take on the Buccaneers Friday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. before a Saturday, Sept. 19 match against the Blue Hose at 4 p.m.
