CHARLESTON, S.C. — Led by Allena Heath's match-high 12 kills, Campbell University volleyball swept Charleston Southern in a Big South Conference match on Friday night inside the Buc Dome.
The win improved Campbell's overall record to 11-8 and its Big South ledger to 5-1, suitable for the best start to a conference season since the 2009 squad went 5-1 over its first six Atlantic Sun Conference matches.
Campbell limited Charleston Southern to a .023 hitting clip, the lowest hitting percentage the Camels have held an opponent to all season. The win was also Campbell's eighth three-set sweep of the year and the second straight after the Camels swept UNC Asheville last Saturday in Buies Creek.
Heath only committed one error across her 29 attacks for a .379 hitting percentage. She also put down four service aces, moving her season total to 30 (0.46 per set), which leads the Big South.
Sarah Colla also recorded double-digit kills, putting down 10; Lailah Green added seven kills.
Emily Mitter and Madee Miner again nearly split the assist distribution, finishing with 15 assists and 14 assists, respectively. Both setters logged six digs, while Elyse Gross led the CU defense with nine digs.
For the first time in a three-set match this season, Campbell combined for double-digit team blocks, sending back 11 Charleston Southern attacks. Melody Paige had seven assisted blocks while Colla added five assisted blocks.
The Fighting Camels will stay in South Carolina for a match at Presbyterian on Saturday, Oct. 19, with first serve slated for 4 p.m.
