Campbell kicked off Big South play with a 28-14 win over Presbyterian in Buies Creek. Freshman running back
Cameron Davis rushed for 137 yards, the most by a Camel this season, helping CU win its fourth consecutive game. The Camels ran for a season-high 228 yards as a team, and the defense held the Blue Hose to just 5-of-14 third down conversions.
Davis averaged 6.2 yards on 22 carries, while
Johnathan Hawkins (4.4) and
Bryant Barr (4.3) also gained more than four yards per attempt.
Hajj-Malik Williams completed 5-of-9 passes for 141 yards and two scores. Barr scored on runs of six and three yards.
Trevion Armstrong and
Davarius Bargnare also hauled in touchdown receptions and
Caleb Snead added a pair of grabs for 40 yards.
Darion Slade led the Camels with 12 total tackles, including five unassisted, while
Brevin Allen added eight stops, including 3.5 tackles for loss.
Four in a row
With four straight wins, Campbell is 4-1 on the season, matching a program best through five games. The 2018 team also started 4-1, moving to 5-1 for the program's best start in its modern era. This is Campbell's fourth streak of four or more wins all-time, also winning four in a row in 2017 and 2014, while taking a school record five straight in 2011.
Running of the Camels
With 228 rushing yards against the Blue Hose, Campbell has rushed for 200-plus yards in back to back games, with 249 at Mercer, and three times in its last four outings, adding 207 in a win over Shaw. Campbell last rushed for 200-plus yards in back to back games in 2017, when CU put together a four game stretch of 200 or more yards on the ground.
Camels receiving FCS Top-25 votes
For the third consecutive week, Campbell is receiving votes in the FCS top-25 polls. The Camels picked up 15 votes in the AFCA Coaches' Poll, the most ever for the program. Campbell also received three votes in the STATS FCS Top-25 media poll, giving the Camels votes in both polls for the first time in program history.
This is the third different season that the Camels have received top-25 votes, also picking up tallies in 2011 and 2018.
Camels unbeaten against FCS foes
Campbell is among 16 schools that remain unbeaten against FCS competition, with losses only to FBS opponents, this season. The 4-1 Camels, whose only loss came at FBS Troy, is joined by the three remaining FCS unbeatens, North Dakota State, Princeton and Dartmouth, plus James Madison, South Dakota State, Weber State, Montana, Kennesaw State, Furman, Nicholls, North Carolina A&T, Sacramento State, Central Connecticut State, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. Of those, only Campbell, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman remain unranked. CU is also one of 15 FCS teams with four or more wins and one or fewer losses.

With a
Levi Wiggins interception against Presbyterian, Campbell has posted a takeaway in all five games of 2019, collecting 11 total turnovers in that span, including six interceptions and five fumbles. Campbell has turned those 11 takeaways into 35 points.
The Camels rank third in the FCS in turnover margin, losing the ball to turnovers only four times so far this season. Campbell's four turnovers are the fourth-fewest in the country, while its 11 takeaways ranks 34
th.
No fly zone
A year after leading the FCS in passing defense, the Camels are again among the nation's leaders, ranking ninth at 167.4 yards allowed per game. The Camels allowed just 122.5 yards per game through the air in 2018, holding opponents under 150 yards passing seven times, including a school record 12 yards at Presbyterian.
Turning defense into points
Kam Prewitt's 44-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter at Mercer marked the Camels' first non-offensive TD of the season. It was the 14
th pick-six in Campbell's modern era (since 2008), and Prewitt's first as a Camel. Campbell posted three non-offensive scores in 2018.
With Prewitt's pick-six, Campbell has now scored 35 points off 11 takeaways this season. The Camels scored a season-high 21 points off turnovers in their 31-29 win over Davidson in week four. Campbell has converted points off of opponent turnovers in three of its four games this season.
Starting off the right way
The Camels are off to a 3-0 start at home for the second time in program history, also winning its first three dates at Barker-Lane Stadium in 2015. Campbell opened its 2019 home slate with a 38-14 win over Division II Shaw, winning its fifth straight home opener, following that performance with a 31-29 win over Davidson and a 28-14 victory over Presbyterian.
Leading the Camels
Rookie quarterback
Hajj-Malik Williams leads the way for Campbell, completing nearly 63 percent of his passes, while averaging 197 passing yards per game with 10 touchdowns. Williams adds 193 rushing yards and two more scores, while
Cameron Davis has rushed for a team-high 256 yards and a TD.
Johnathan Hawkins also owns 230 yards and three scores rushing.
Caleb Snead owns a team-best 273 receiving yards with four touchdowns, while
Davarius Bargnare has picked up 260 yards and two TDs.
Jalen Kelsey tacks on another three touchdowns through the air with 169 yards.
Justice Galloway-Velazquez paces the CU defense with 42 tackles, adding 1.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception.
Tywun Rivens has also gathered 36 tackles, while
Damien Dozier owns 28 stops, including 3.0 for loss.
Brevin Allen adds a team-best 7.0 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks.
Scouting Hampton
Hampton comes into the game at 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Big South play following a 35-27 setback at Gardner-Webb. The Pirates were a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference from 1995-2017, winning five league championships, most recently in 2006. Hampton played the 2018 season as a FCS independent.
Deondre Francois leads the Pirates, averaging 226.2 passing yards per game, totaling 13 TD tosses, while Shai McKenzie has rushed for 369 yards and two touchdowns. Top receiving target Jadakis Bonds also owns 444 yards with nine scores. Oral Varcciann has tallied a team-high 35 tackles, with Tyler Frazier tacking on 20 stops, including 4.5 tackles for loss.
Saturday will be the first meeting between the Camels and the Pirates.

Campbell will make its Big South road debut next week at Gardner-Webb on Oct. 26. Following a trip to North Alabama (Nov. 2), the Camels will return to Buies Creek to face nationally-ranked Kennesaw State on Nov. 9.
