RADFORD, Va. — Campbell University volleyball improved to 2-0 in Big South Conference action with a 3-1 victory over the Radford Highlanders Friday night inside the Dedmon Center.
Sarah Colla totaled a season-high 24 kills and added 14 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Madee Miner also logged her fourth double-double, pairing 28 assists with 12 digs.
"We executed at a high level and defended very well," said head coach Greg Goral. "Scoring in transition kept Radford from taking momentum from us. Overall, it was a great team win. I'm looking forward to our match tomorrow to see if we can duplicate our effort against another quality team."
Allena Heath also posted a season-high mark, recording 16 kills. Emily Mitter dished out 18 assists, her team-high 13th match with double-digit assists.
Elyse Gross again led the Camels defensively, recording 21 digs, just her third match this year with over 20 digs. Led by Ananda Patterson's seven assisted blocks, the Camels combined for 11.0 team blocks, good for Campbell's third match of double-digit team blocks.
After committing 11 errors in the first set and posting a .087 hitting percentage, Campbell made just four errors across the second and third sets, hitting .378 with 29 kills over that stretch.
In a tight first set, Campbell trailed 21-18 late before a small 4-1 run sparked by a Colla kill tied the score at 22 apiece. Radford reached set point at 24-22, but the Camels came back again with back-to-back kills from Colla and Heath for a 24-24 tie. Campbell reached set point twice at 26-25 and 27-26; however, Radford closed out the first-set win with a 3-0 run to win 29-27.
In set two, the Camels put down 18 kills and committed just three errors for a .366 hitting percentage, tying the match at one set apiece with a commanding 25-17 win.
Campbell jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third set before cruising to a 25-8 victory, taking a 2-1 lead in the match. The Camels closed out the set on a 10-0 run that featured three kills from Heath.
Campbell took a 23-21 lead on an attack error by Radford, but the Highlanders challenged the play, claiming that the Camels touched the attack. The call was overturned, tying the score at 22 apiece. Radford earned the next point to make it 23-22, but the Camels sealed the set and the match with a 3-0 run, capped by Heath's 16th kill.
The Fighting Camels have a quick turnaround with a Saturday afternoon match at High Point. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. inside HPU'S Millis Center.
