BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell University volleyball head coach Greg Goral clinched his 100th career win on Friday night, becoming the first head coach in program history to accomplish the feat, as the Fighting Camels defeated Gardner-Webb 3-1 in a Big South Conference match inside Gore Arena.
The win also improved Campbell's league record to 7-2, while Gardner-Webb dropped to 0-10. Overall, the Fighting Camels are 13-19; the Runnin' Bulldogs sit at 2-19 after suffering their 10th straight loss.
Sarah Colla put down a match-high 19 kills while committing just six errors over 34 attacks for a .382 hitting percentage, her highest attacking mark in a four-set match this season. Melody Paige, who hit .368 across 19 attacks, finished the night with nine kills.
Elyse Gross recorded 22 digs, suitable for her most in a conference match this year. Emily Mitter dished out 23 assists while Madee Miner added 17 assists.
The Fighting Camels combined to record 11 blocks in the win. Paige finished with six assisted blocks, and Ananda Patterson had five assisted blocks.
Campbell held Gardner-Webb to a .156 attacking percentage, including a .059 mark in the third set before a .050 tally in the fourth and final set. Meanwhile, the Camels hit .223 with 53 total kills.
Campbell has a quick turnaround with a Saturday afternoon match against league leader Winthrop. First serve between the Fighting Camels and Eagles is slated for 2 p.m.
