BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell University volleyball trailed Winthrop 2-0 early before winning back-to-back sets to force a match-deciding fifth set but dropped a 3-2 decision to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.
Campbell dropped to 13-10 overall and 7-3 in Big South play with the loss but did force Winthrop (19-4, 11-0) to play its first five-set match in conference play this year.
Sarah Colla recorded a season-high 28 kills and posted a .328 hitting percentage, committing just eight errors over her 61 attacks. Melody Paige added a career-best 15 kills while Allena Heath also reached double-digit kills with 10. Heath paired her kill total with 13 digs for her second double-double this season.
Madee Miner dished out a season-high 34 assists, suitable for her ninth career match with 30-plus assists; she also recorded 13 digs, earning her sixth double-double of the year. Emily Mitter helped Miner pace the offense, adding 22 assists.
The Campbell defense was again led by rookie libero Elyse Gross, who finished with a career-high 34 digs. Paige recorded six blocks in the match, including two solo blocks and four assisted blocks.
Campbell concludes its five-match homestand by hosting High Point and Radford next weekend, Nov. 8-9. The Fighting Camels and HPU Panthers will play on Friday at 5:30 p.m. before Campbell and Radford play Saturday at 4 p.m for CU's annual Senior Day.
