Lacrosse announces 2019 signing class

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell has announced its eight-member 2019 lacrosse signing class.

The class includes attackers Mattie Riter (Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central HS) and Rasa Welsh (Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial HS), midfielders Sam Bischoff (Pomona, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus), Olivia Geisler (New Market, Md. / Linganore HS), Natalie Mellen (Dunkirk, Md. / Northern HS) and Lizzie Yurchak (Landisville, Pa. / Hempfield HS), defender Katie Ochall (Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's HS), plus goalie Emma Strickland (Roswell, Ga. / Marist School).

The Camels are coming off their fourth straight appearance in the Big South semifinals, and return 17 letterwinners from its 2019 squad, including two-time all-conference selection Sam Carey.

Sam Bischoff | 5-9 | Midfield | Pomona, N.Y. / Albertus Magnus
Bischoff was named an Elite 11 Player, all-conference and all-section as a junior for Albertus Magnus High School. Nominated for Rockland County Player of the Year as a junior, Bischoff is also a team captain. A Pomona, N.Y. native, Bischoff helped lead the Falcons to a conference title as a sophomore, also earning all-conference and all-section honors, also adding an honorable mention all-league nod as a freshman. In addition to lacrosse, Bischoff has lettered in cross country, basketball and soccer over her time at Albertus Magnus. At the club level, she played for Cobra Kai Lacrosse, top-25 nationally ranked in each of the last three seasons. Bischoff plans an education major at Campbell.

Olivia Geisler | 5-6 | Midfield | New Market, Md. / Linganore HS
Geisler is a four year letterwinner for Linganore High School, earning an honorable mention Frederick County News Girls Lacrosse All-County nod. The New Market, Md. native plays for M & D Lacrosse at the club level. In the classroom, she is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and the National French Honor Society, earning the Platinum Academic Award (2017-18) for maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Geisler has also lettered in basketball, cross country and field hockey, earning honorable mention all-county accolades in cross country and field hockey. The 2019 Frederick County Field Hockey Senior All-Star Game participant plans an exercise science major.

Natalie Mellen | 5-8 | Midfield | Dunkirk, Md. / Northern HS
Mellen was a first team all-conference performer as a junior, scoring 42 goals with a draw control percentage of 81, also serving as team captain. The Dunkirk, Md. native was also named honorable mention all-conference as a freshman and sophomore, posting 24 and 31 goals, respectively, earning the team's Pivotal Player award as a sophomore. While starring at Northern High School, also lettering in field hockey and track & field, she played for the Uproar at the club level. Mellen plans to major in kinesiology at Campbell.

Katie Ochall | 5-8 | Defense | Annapolis, Md. / St. Mary's HS
Ochall will head to Campbell from St. Mary's High School. The defender plays for CCLax 2020 at the club level, planning an education major at CU. Ochall also lettered in field hockey, indoor track and basketball, earning team MVP honors as a sophomore and senior in field hockey. Selected to play in the Field Hockey Coaches Association of Maryland Senior All-Star game (2019), she was also named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic squad in 2018. A National Honors Society member, Ochall was selected to participate in the Student Athletes in Leadership (SAIL) program in 2019, invited to the IAAM Leadership Conference, and received first honors, as well as the Award for Excellence in Cinematic Art.

Mattie Riter | 5-0 | Attack | Homer, N.Y. / Homer Central HS
Riter is a two-time first team all-conference performer, also earning honorable mention accolades in 2016-17. She was named offensive MVP in 2018-19, ranking fourth in Central New York with 111 points, fifth in goals with 64 and sixth in assists with 47 through the end of the regular season, while setting school records for single season points and career assists. The Homer, N.Y. native tied school records for assists in a season and points in a game in 2017-18, totaling 80 points on 40 goals and 40 assists on the year. Riter tallied 31 points on 25 goals and six helpers in 2016-17, and also played varsity lacrosse as an eighth grader, recording 14 points on eight goals and six assists. Riter earned scholar athlete designation every semester, leading Homer Central to a Class C League Championship in 2015-16. The attacker also played for the Salt City Snipers 2020 at the club level, leading the Snipers to a No. 4 national ranking in Fall 2018. Riter lettered in soccer, volleyball and indoor track in addition to lacrosse, playing club volleyball for Crown City Travel. A National Honor Society member, Riter is a a two-time honorable mention for the scholar art award, planning a mechanical engineering major at Campbell.

Emma Strickland | 5-7 | Goalie | Roswell, Ga. / Marist School
Helping lead the Marist School War Eagles to regional championships in 2018 and 2019, Strickland fashioned a 0.564 save percentage through junior season. The Roswell, Ga. native received the team's coach's award in 2017, and earned the 2019 War Eagle Heart Award. The goalie also played for Eagle Stix at the club level.

Rasa Welsh | 5-9 | Attack | Ellicott City, Md. / Centennial HS
Welsh is coming off a junior season that garnered first team all-county honors, posting 27 goals with 15 assists, 55 draw controls and 13 ground balls, while ranking in the county's top-20 in points. The Ellicott City, Md. product collected 29 goals, nine assists, 17 draw controls and 42 ground balls as a freshman, and has played for the Heros at the club level, where she was named to the all-tournament team at the Vail Shootout in 2019. Welsh was also a third team all-state basketball player as a junior for Centennial High.

Lizzie Yurchak | 5-7 | Midfield | Landisville, Pa. / Hempfield HS
A two-time first team all-star, Yurchak was named a US Lacrosse All-American as a junior, also serving as team captain for Hempfield High School. The midfielder posted 101 goals, 27 assist, 84 draw controls, five interceptions, 32 caused turnovers and 37 ground balls last season, and totaled 71 goals with 27 assist, 71 draw controls, eight interceptions and 48 ground balls as a sophomore. She also earned honorable mention all-conference accolades as a freshman, recording 39 goals, 12 assist, 64 draw controls, four interceptions and 32 ground balls. She has played for Xtreme Lacrosse at the club level. The dean's list and National Honors Society member also lettered in soccer and basketball, earning second team all-star honors in soccer as a two-time team captain.
