BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After a tournament title at the Navy Classic, Campbell's
Josh Heil has been named the Southern Conference's Wrestler of the Week.
Heil earned his second individual tournament championship of the season, going a perfect 4-0 on the day with wins over two ranked opponents at the Navy Classic. After earning a 4-2 decision over Edinboro's Carmine Ciotti, Heil advanced with a medical forfeit, defeating No. 18 Mitch Moore of Virginia Tech 5-3. In the title match, the 141-pounder tallied a 2-1 decision over No. 6 Kyle Shoop of Lock Haven.
The Brunswick, Ohio native has fashioned a 9-1 overall record through the first month of the 2019-20 season, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents. Heil has gone 8-0 in tournament bouts.
Heil, a redshirt junior, was one of three individual champions and six Campbell placers at the Navy Classic, with
Noah Gonser (133) and
Jere Heino (285) also topping the podium.
Heil is the third Camel to be named SoCon Wrestler of the Week already this season, joining
Andrew Morgan and
Quentin Perez.
Next up for the Camels will be the Reno Tournament of Champions on December 15.
