NORFOLK, VA - A trio of Old Dominion players tallied double-digit scoring totals to defeat Campbell 59-44 in its home opener Friday night at Chartway Arena.
Ajah Wayne and Amari Young both scored 16 points and Taylor Edwards added 12 for ODU (1-0) who scored 24 points off 20 Campbell turnovers.
Hayley Barber led the charge for the Camels with 13 points, all in the first half, to pair with three boards and two assists.
Campbell (1-1) cut the lead to six points with 4:03 remaining in the third period when
Brittany Staves converted an and-one heading into the media timeout before ODU pushed its lead back up to nine heading into the final frame.
The Monarchs scored six straight to open the final period in route to outscoring the Camels 16-10 in the quarter.
ODU was able to convert more free-throws, 18-26, than the Camels attempted, 8-14, on the night.
Luana Serranho was able to add eight points for the Camels including 3-of-4 shooting from the free throw line from Serranho.
Shy Tuelle also netted eight points and pulled down 11 boards on the night including a pair of buckets late to help the Camels narrow the ODU lead to 15 who led by as many as 21.
Taya Bolden was able to tally the 13
th double-digit rebound performance of her career with 10 on the night to lead all players.
