BUIES CREEK, N.C. –
LaDarius Knight came off the bench to score a career-high 15 points and lead Campbell to an 82-59 win over Johnson & Wales Saturday at Gore Arena.
Jordan Whitfield added a career-best 14 points, plus four assists, while
Trey Spencer and
Milos Stajcic chipped in 11 apiece for the Camels (8-3), who won their second-straight game and fourth in the last five outings.
Robert Hobson led Johnson & Wales (8-3) with 20 points and hit pull-up three cut Campbell's lead to 54-49 with 12:10 remaining in the game. However, Campbell responded with a 12-0 that extended to 20-4 over the next 7:17 and led by as many as 24 down the stretch.
Knight's corner three started the decisive burst; then Spencer knocked down a triple to push the Camels ahead 60-49 with 10:46 left. Knight drew a charge on the next possession, followed by
Messiah Thompson's acrobatic reverse lay-in.
Joshua Lusane then completed the initial flurry on back door feeds from Thompson and Spencer.
The Camels held JWU to just 2-of-14 shooting over a nine-minute span in the final period and to just 36.4 percent (24-66) on the day. JWU entered the game averaging more than 10 threes made per game, but hit just 6-of-26 (.231) on the day and 5-of-9 from the stripe.
Campbell made 45.9 percent (28-61) of its shots, but made 17-of-21 (.810) from the line and scored 28 points off 25 JWU turnovers.
Stajcic pulled down a career-best eight rebounds and tied his career scoring mark. Spencer also matched his career high with a game-high five assists.
Cedric Henderson, Jr., added nine points and four steals.
The Camels return to action Dec. 29 at Ohio before opening Big South play at home Jan. 2 vs. Gardner-Webb.
