HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - Ana Hernandez Gill scored a career-high 25 points and Jaylen Hines added 14 as Hofstra held off Campbell 58-55 Saturday afternoon at the Mack Sports Complex.
Hayley Barber was just three points shy of her career-high with 19 points on 6-of-14 shooting including 3-of-7 from deep to pair with six rebounds.
Gil posted her career-high on 8-of-10 shooting which were all three pointers to pair with a 1-of-2 effort from the charity stripe.
Trailing by two with 14 seconds to play
Hayley Barber dribbled towards the end line but was bumped out of bounds resulting in a turnover. Hernandez Gil followed by making a free throw but missing on the second however Hofstra grabbed the rebound to secure the game.
Campbell trailed by as many as eight with 4:05 left in the final quarter but could not complete the comeback. The Camels (5-4) came back to tie the game with 1:13 to play on a pair of free throws made by
Luana Serranho but the Pride answered with a three from Hernandez Gil with 37 seconds to play.
Campbell later pulled back to within one point, 56-55, with 23 ticks on the clock on a pair of free throws from
Shy Tuelle who finished with 11 points.
The Pride was able to shoot 47 percent from the field including a 61 percent effort from deep compared to the Camels' 32 percent outing and 30 percent mark from three.
Campbell opens conference play after the Christmas break on December 28 against High Point at 2:00.
