BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Shy Tuelle scored 14 points and Ashlyn Hampton added 13 as Campbell topped High Point 73-36 to open Big South Conference play Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.
Campbell never trailed and led by as many as 38 with 1:58 remaining in the final period to secure the win over the Panthers who never led and did not make a field goal over the final 8:27 over the contest.
Campbell held the Panthers (2-8, 0-1 Big South) to just 24 percent shooting from the floor and 14 percent from beyond the arc for the lowest opponent shooting marks of the season.
High Point's 36 points marked the lowest points allowed by the Camels (6-4, 1-0 Big South) since February 14, 2017, against Winthrop in a 70-35 win.Â
Tuelle scored in double figures for the sixth time this season on 6-of-10 shooting and Hampton hit double-digits for the first time this season on 5-of-8 shooting.
Tuelle scored the first seven points of the contest as a part of an 11 point first period to pair with Hayley Barber's five who finished with seven points on the afternoon.
Campbell's defensive effort allowed just one double-digit scoring period in the opening block where the Panthers posted 10 points but shot just 26 percent.
HPU did not have a double-digit scorer but was led by Skyler Curran who finished with eight points and three boards.
The Camels out-rebounded HPU 73-36 to post the most rebound in a Big South contest in program history. CU turned those boards into 16 second-chance points to pair with 10 forced turnovers that resulted in 13 points. Campbell also tabbed a 32-20 edge in points in the paint.Â
