Camels remain undefeated at home with decade ending win over Upstate

Taya Bolden posted the 12th double-double of her career

BUIES CREEK, N.C. ­- Taya Bolden recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards and Ashlyn Hampton added 11 points as Campbell topped USC Upstate 50-38 Saturday afternoon inside Gore Arena.
 
Campbell held the Spartans (6-5, 1-1 Big South) to just 29 perfect shooting from the field including 18 percent from three-point range while the Camels shot 35 percent from the floor and 20 percent from downtown.
 
Bolden posted her first double-double of the season and the 12th of her career on 6-of-13 shooting in 21 minutes of action to help the Camels (7-4, 2-0) remain undefeated at home this season. The 6-0 home start marks the best start since the Camels jumpstarted 5-0 in the 2012-13 season.
 
Hampton recorded her second consecutive double-digit scoring game on a perfect shooting day including a 4-of-4 effort from the field and a 3-of-3 mark from the charity stripe.
 
The 38 point total marked the second consecutive game the Camels held an opponent to under 40 points.
 
Taya Bolden scored the Camels first six points of the contest to kick off an 18-10 advantage in the opening period. Campbell wrapped a 17-4 run around the end of the first period and the start of the second.
 
Led by the surge from Bolden and Hampton, Campbell outscored the Spartans 28-10 in the paint thanks to an added eight points from Lauren McNamara-Clement.
 
The Camels were also able to pull down 45 rebounds compared to Upstate's 31 including 13 offensive boards which turned into 17 second-chance points.
 
Kathryn Kirkwood posted 10 points for the Spartans on 4-of-7 shooting to serve as the Spartans lone double-digit scorer while Brianna Lewis and Barrett Herring added six apiece.
 
Campbell hits the road for a pair of matchups at UNC Asheville on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. before heading to Longwood on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
