BOSTON, Mass. – Athanas Kioko ran the fourth fastest 5000m time in school history at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Saturday night at Boston University.
Kioko, in his first indoor meet, clocked in at 13:48.97, setting a top five time in program history. The mark ranked 11th overall in his heat and 12th overall at the meet.
Amon Kemboi set the 5000m school record last season with a time of 13:33.64. Former Campbell standouts
Lawrence Kipkoech (13:41.17) and
Amon Terer (13:42.78) also rank ahead of Kioko.
Iowa State's Edwin Kurgat took first overall in the event in 13:24.04. Donn Cabral (13:25.56) and Charles Philibert-Thiboutot (13:30.79) finished in second and third respectively behind Kurgat.
The Camels will wait until the year changes before the next competition at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge on Saturday, January 11 in Chapel Hill.
