Campbell earns 7-4 rain-soaked win over Hoyas

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — Campbell sophomore Ty Babin (2-for-2, 3 RBI) drove in three runs and smacked two base hits to lead the Camels to a 7-4 rain-soaked victory over the Georgetown Hoyas Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium.

Babin delivered a two-out pinch-hit liner into right field to help Campbell regain the lead in the fourth, 4-2. He drove in his third run in the seventh on another line drive to right, padding CU's advantage to four runs, 8-4. Matthew Barefoot (2-for-4, 2 R) also collected two hits, while Spencer Packard (1-for-2, 2 RBI) added an RBI-single in the first.

In his first career start, redshirt-sophomore Logan Heintzman tossed 3.0 innings, while striking out a career-high four batters, which included three looking. Senior righty Michael Horrell (1-0) collected his first win of 2019, tallying six strikeouts across 4.0 innings of relief. Barton College transfer Landry Moore earned his first Division I save by holding Georgetown off the board in the ninth.

Jeremiah Burke (0-2) took the loss for the Hoyas, giving up four earned runs over 4.2 innings pitched.

For the second time this season, Barefoot led off the first inning with a double, later scoring on Packard's two-out single to left center.

Georgetown took the lead in the fourth by way of two unearned runs with one run apiece in the third and fourth innings. The Camels made four errors across those innings as the Hoyas reached base on just two hits.

Barefoot again got the inning started in the fifth, this time with two away. The redshirt-junior singled to short, later stealing second with AJ Hrica (0-for-3, BB, R) at the plate. Hrica drew a walk and then he and Barefoot executed a double steal, putting Camels at second and third.

Luis Gimenez (0-for-2, 2 BB, 2 R) worked another walk, loading the bases for Packard who drew a four-pitch base on balls, tying the game at 2-2. Head coach Justin Haire then called upon Babin to pinch-hit and the sophomore delivered, driving a 0-2, two-out single into right field, scoring Hrica and Gimenez.

Georgetown got another run back in the sixth by way of a leadoff home run from Freddey Achecar III. Horrell allowed a two-out single up the middle, but the runner was erased on the immediately next pitch as Babin caught him trying to steal second.

Campbell tacked on three more runs in the seventh. With the count full, Gimenez fouled off four-straight before drawing a walk with one away. Packard was hit by a pitch and then Babin singled into right field again, scoring Gimenez and advancing Packard to third.

Freshman Waldy Arias pinch ran for Packard, later scoring on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Tyler Anshaw (0-for-3, RBI). Babin scored Campbell's seventh run by stealing third, forcing an errant throw by the Georgetown catcher, and advancing home on the error.

Julian Blackburn came on in the eighth and allowed a leadoff home run, allowing Campbell's lead to fall from four to three, 7-4. However, the junior lefty did settle in, eventually ending the inning with a four-pitch strikeout, stranding a Hoya at first.

Moore entered in the top of the ninth, striking out the leadoff batter before inducing the game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

Saturday's first pitch between the Camels and Hoyas is slated for 3 p.m. The series finale will begin Sunday at 1 p.m.
