Campbell defeats Western Carolina 5-2

Box Score BUIES CREEK, N.C.-The Fighting Camels toppled the Western Carolina Catamounts 5-2 in today's match at the Nesbit Tennis Center. Campbell's win over Western Carolina marks their fourth win of the 2019 season.

WCU took an early lead, claiming the doubles point to start the match. Doubles pair Jacy Smith and Julia Pezzuco won the first doubles matchup against Campbell's Isabel Boada and Alexandra Nicoara in a 6-4 decision. Campbell came back with a doubles win of their own when doubles duo Lucile Pons and Lea Cutura snagged a 6-3 win over WCU's Lauren McCall and Carli Deehr. CU then fell in the last doubles matchup when Western Carolina pair Jordan Strickland Savannah Taranto clinched the doubles point at with a 6-4 win.

The Camels made a strong, team comeback in singles action, Pons and Cutura both posting 2-0 overall records for the match. Pons notched the first singles win beating WCU's Savannah Taranto 6-0, 6-1. Cutura followed with her 6-0, 6-2 singles win over Lauren McCall. CU teammate Nicoara kept the singles sweep going to beat Alexa Webb 6-1, 6-1.

Lou Regen clinched the match for the Camels at No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-3 singles win against Jordan Strickland. Teammate Pauline Roustan claimed the fifth point for CU, beating Julia Pezzuco with a final of 4-6, 7-5, 10-8. Castillo went three sets, 4-6, 6-0, 3-6, before dropping her singles matchup to Western Carolina's Jacy Smith.

Next Match: The Camels take the court again this Thursday, February 28, to host Elon in their third home match at the Nesbit Tennis Center. The first serve is set for 2:00 p.m.
