BUIES CREEK N.C. – For the seventh time this season,
Chris Clemons of Campbell University has been named Big South Conference men's basketball player of the week.
Clemons, who led the Camels to a pair of victories that clinched the top seed in this week's Big South Championship, shared the weekly honor with D.J. Laster of Gardner-Webb.
A senior guard from Raleigh, N.C., Clemons averaged 31.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals in leading the Camels to a share of the regular-season title as well as the No. 1 seed in this week's tournament. He was 21-of-44 from the field (.477) and made 12-of-13 free throws (.923) after scoring 32 points at USC Upstate last Wednesday and 30 Saturday afternoon against Radford.
Laster averaged 22.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in helping the Runnin' Bulldogs finish the season undefeated at home at 13-0, as well as clinch a first round bye in the Big South tournament.
The nation's leading scorer (30.1), Clemons has scored in double figures in 112-straight games, tied for second all-time on the NCAA Division I list and the longest streak among active players. He enters Thursday's game with 3,136 points, 14 shy of Creighton's Doug McDermott (3,150 from 2010-14) , who is fifth on the all-time D1 scoring chart.
Campbell will square off against either Hampton or Longwood in Thursday's 6:00 p.m. quarterfinal at Gore Arena.
As the No. 1 seed, Campbell will host the quarterfinals and semifinals, March 7-8, while the highest remaining seed will host the Championship game on Sunday, March 10 at 1:00pm on ESPN. Tickets for the quarterfinals and semifinals can be purchased through the Campbell ticket office, and online at
