Camels fall at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Scattered around two lightning delays, Campbell fell at Charlotte 4-1 Thursday night.

Trailing 1-0, McKenna de Graaf netted her first goal of the season to even the match, 1-1. Jessica Donald played the ball to the senior who finished in the back of the net.

Following the second weather delay, Charlotte (5-1) reeled off three unanswered goals.

"I was disappointed with how we responded to the rain delay and I didn't think we took care of the ball tonight," said Campbell head coach Samar Azem.

Abby Stapleton picked up the win in goal by allowing just one goal and making one save over 62 minutes of action.

After tallying three straight wins entering the contest, Reaghan Duval suffered the loss by giving up three goals while saving two shots for the Camels (3-2-1).

Campbell was able to create multiple chances throughout the game by tallying five corner kick opportunities to pair with seven shots on the night.

"This match gives our younger players a chance to mature against a very good high tempo team and we will start taking better care of the ball," continued Azem.

Charlotte forward Megan Greene netted three goals on the night to pair with teammate Michaella Arteta who scored the final goal of the night.

Campbell closes out non-conference play on Sunday at home against Wofford with kickoff set for 3:00 p.m.
