BOULDER, Colo. — Campbell volleyball opened the Colorado Classic with a dominant 3-0 sweep over the UMBC Golden Retrievers Friday night at the CU Events Center.
The win moved Campbell's winning streak to six matches, tying the program's longest winning streak since the Fighting Camels rattled off six straight in 2017. The win was also CU's six consecutive sweep, which tied a 21-year-old record set by the 1998 squad that swept six opponents from Oct. 24 to Nov. 7.
Both setters Emily Mitter and Madee Miner registered double-doubles. Mitter paired 15 assists with 10 digs for her team-high fourth double-double while Miner added 14 assists and 12 digs.
Sarah Colla recorded a match-high 14 kills, reaching double-digit kills for the eighth time this season. Ananda Patterson and Lailah Green put down eight kills apiece; Patterson had no errors across 16 attacks for a .500 hitting percentage.
Patterson also had six block assists as Campbell finished with six team blocks to UMBC's one.
Campbell went up 1-0 with a nine-point win in the first set, 25-16. After UMBC reached set point in set two at 24-21, the Fighting Camels rallied off five straight points to win, 26-24. Patterson sparked the 5-0 spurt before a setter kill by Miner gave Campbell the 2-0 match lead.
The Camels led by as many as nine, 21-12, in the final set before UMBC came back to within two at 23-20. Campbell closed out the match on a 3-1 run to earn its sixth straight sweep.
The Fighting Camels continue play in the Colorado Classic Saturday with a match versus Oakland at noon (10 a.m. MST) before a late contest against the host Colorado Buffaloes at 9:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. MST).
