Camels fall to Oakland, 3-1

BOULDER, Colo. Campbell volleyball suffered a 3-1 loss to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies as part of the Colorado Classic on Saturday afternoon at the CU Events Center.

The loss snapped a six-match winning streak for the Fighting Camels as they suffered their first loss since Sept. 3, a 3-2 setback to UNCW.

Setters Emily Mitter and Madee Miner together dished out 36 assists as Mitter accounted for 20, her third performance with 20 or more assists. Mitter paired her assist total with 11 digs for her fifth double-double while Miner had 16 assists and 12 digs for the third double-double of her junior season.

For the ninth time this year, Sarah Colla reached double-digit kills with 17 kills. Allena Heath added 14 kills.

At the net, Campbell was led by Melody Paige who tallied eight blocks, all assisted. Ananda Patterson added seven blocks (two solo, five assisted). As a team, the Camels recorded a season-high 15.0 blocks, just the fifth 15.0-block performance all-time.

Elyse Gross had a match-high 17 digs and assisted seven attacks.

With a 1-0 lead in set two, the Camels were one point away from a 2-0 advantage, reaching set point at 24-22 after a Colla kill; however, the Grizzlies closed the set on a 4-0 run to tie the match at one apiece.

Campbell trailed by 11, 21-10, in the third set before going on a 10-1 run to come back to within two of Oakland, 22-20. The Grizzlies went up 2-1 in the match by sealing the third-set victory with a 3-0 run.

Campbell suffered its first loss in nearly three weeks by dropping the fourth set, 25-20.

The Fighting Camels play their final match of the Colorado Classic tonight at 9:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. MST) against the host Colorado Buffaloes.
