HAMPTON, Va. — Madee Miner dished out 30 assists and Sarah Colla logged her third double-double of the season as Campbell volleyball completed a 3-1 win over Hampton in the Big South opener for both teams at Holland Hall.
With the win, the Camels improved to 5-2 in Big South openers under head coach Greg Goral.
Miner's 30-assist performance was the eighth of her career, while freshman Emily Mitter added 19 assists.
Colla paired a match-high 17 kills with 11 digs for her first double-double in exactly two weeks. Allena Heath added 13 kills, her fourth match of 10 or more digs this year.
Rookie libero Elyse Gross totaled a match-high 17 digs.
The Fighting Camels won the first set, 25-19, led by eight kills from Colla.
Campbell led 21-16 late in set two before Hampton pulled back to within one at 21-20, forcing the Camels to take a timeout. A kill by Heath sparked a 4-0 run to help Campbell reach set point, 24-20. Hampton did respond with one more point but another Heath kill secured the 25-21 win for CU.
Hampton jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the third set and did not allow the Camels to get to within five for the remainder of the set. The Pirates pulled away for a 25-18 win, forcing a fourth set.
In set four, Campbell took a timeout trailing Hampton by four, 20-16. Out of the break, the Camels closed out the set on 9-2 run as Colla's 17th kill earned CU the 3-1 victory, 25-22.
Campbell continues conference play with a pair of road contests against the preseason league favorites, Radford and High Point next weekend. Campbell meets Radford Friday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m. before a 2 p.m. match at High Point the following day.
