BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After an unblemished day at the Duals on the Diamond, Campbell's
Noah Gonser has been named the Southern Conference's Wrestler of the Week.
Gonser went 3-0 while knocking off two ranked opponents last Saturday at Duals on the Diamond, hosted by Arizona State at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
A redshirt senior, Gonser started the day with an overtime win over Iowa State's Todd Small, ranked No. 21, with CU upsetting the No. 11 Cyclones, then pinned No. 14 Joshua Krammer of Arizona State as the Camels came up just short against the No. 7 Sun Devils, 21-18. Gonser closed the day with a 17-2 tech fall win over Harvard's Michael Jaffe, helping Campbell finish out with a 27-9 win.
He was one of two Camels to go a perfect 3-0 on the day, joined by freshman
Jason Kraisser at 149 pounds.
The Grand Blanc, Mich. native is now 20-5 on the season, ranking as high as No. 9 at 133 pounds (FloWrestling) nationally.
This is the sixth time a Camel has been named SoCon Wrestler of the Week this season, joined by
Josh Heil (twice),
Korbin Meink,
Andrew Morgan and
Quentin Perez.
The Camels will make their home debut on January 18, beginning their SoCon schedule by hosting The Citadel.
