Speight’s 24 pushes Camels past PC

CLINTON, S.C. - Kianna Speight knocked down a career-high eight three-pointers to finish with 24 points as Campbell held off Presbyterian 53-47 inside the Templeton Center Saturday afternoon.

The Camels' fifth-straight win solidified the Camels at the top of the Big South standings.

Speight recorded just three points shy of her career-high which she set during her time at Davidson against St. Bonaventure. Hayley Barber followed with 13 points and Luana Serranho nine.

Speight hit a trio of three-pointers in both the second and third periods and one in the opening and final period to bookend her performance.

Campbell (12-5, 7-1) matched its largest lead of the contest 49-39 with 2:01 to play on a Taya Bolden layup in traffic.

Tess Santos followed by making four straight free throws after a pair of stops to pull to within six, 49-43, with 1:39 remaining.

After a few traded possessions, Santos delivered again with a jumper inside the arc to cut the CU lead to four, 51-47, but the Blue Hose (5-11, 1-6 Big South) could not inch closer as Luana Serranho answered with a pair of makes from the stripe.

Trinity Johnson led the way for PC with 11 points followed by Santos with nine.

Opposite of the norm, Campbell was outscored in the paint 14-4 but the Camels were able to tab an 11-4 edge on second-chance points after out-rebounding PC 32-37.

Campbell returns to action on Tuesday against Charleston Southern at home where the Camels are a perfect 8-0 on the season. With one more home win the Big South Conference-leading Camels could post its best home start since the 1997-98 season when Campbell started 12-0 at home.
