Box Score NASHVILLE, TENN. - For the second time in two days,
Lea Cutura clinched the match at No. 2 to help lead Campbell to a 5-2 win over Belmont Monday afternoon.
The win in Nashville pushed the Camels to 2-0 on the season following yesterday's 7-0 sweep over Tennessee State.
Campbell opened by claiming the doubles point thanks to a doubles opening win from
Ana Castillo and
Lea Cutura 6-4.
Lou Regen and
Ciara O'Toole later paired to clinch the doubles point with a tie-breaking 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 3.
Cutura followed in singles action by clinching the match for the second-straight day with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 to propel her to 2-0 in singles play this season.
Ana Castillo opened play with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1 to improve her record to 2-0 on the year.
Lou Regen followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 to set up the clincher for Cutura. The win also pushed her singles record to an unblemished 2-0.
After dropping the opening set 4-6,
Lucile Pons remained undefeated on the season by bouncing back and claiming the final two sets 6-1, 6-3.
Belmont's (1-1) Maria Plaksina then claimed the Bruins first win of the afternoon at No. 6 topping O'Toole 6-2, 6-2 before Terra Sheldon closed the match with a 6-3, 7-6, 10-6 win over
Inma Ramon at No. 5.
Campbell travels to Appalachian State on February 1 at 2:00 p.m. before hosting its home opener against North Carolina Central on February 6 at 2:00 p.m.
