Balanced UNCW downs Camels

Henderson scores 23 in loss

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Mike Okauru led four Seahawks in double figures with 17 points and UNCW defeated Campbell 78-59 Monday at Gore Arena.

Ty Gadsden and Jaylen Sims added 15 points each, while Joe Pridgen had 14 points and 13 rebounds for UNCW (5-3), which won its second-straight game.

Cedric Henderson, Jr., scored with points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Campbell (4-3), which dropped its third-straight since opening the year with four-consecutive victories.  Jesús Carralero came off the bench to add nine points and three steals.  Jordan Whitfield, who entered as the fourth-leading scorer in the Big South (15.3), finished with a season-low two points.

The Seahawks used a 13-0 run midway through the first half to extend a one-point lead to 14.  Campbell trimmed a 21-point deficit to 12 on Henderson's bucket with 8:27 remaining, but could draw no closer.

UNCW shot 47 percent from the floor, made 8-of-24 threes and 14-of-19 (.737) from the line.  The Seahawks finished with a 24-12 edge in points off turnovers and a 38-33 advantage on the boards.

Campbell shot 52 percent in from the field in the second period (15-29), 41 percent (24-58) on the day, hit 3-of-18 beyond the arc and 8-of-11 from the stripe.

Monday's win was just UNCW's second in six tries at Gore Arena, which opened in 2008-09.

The Camels open Big South Conference play Dec. 30-31 at defending champion Winthrop.
