BUIES CREEK - Shy Tuelle poured in a season-high 21 points and Campbell made 12 three-pointers en route to a 69-41 win over Winthrop to open up Big South play, Wednesday afternoon in Gore Arena.
Campbell (4-2, 1-0) held Winthrop (2-4, 1-2) to 32.7% shooting from the field and forced 23 turnovers in the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Campbell forced eight turnovers and held Winthrop to 2-of-11 shooting from the field in the first quarter, building a 20-5 lead behind nine points from Taya Bolden
- Tuelle caught fire in the second quarter scoring 11 of her 16 first-half points in the period, draining three 3-pointers
- Campbell entered halftime up 38-12— marking its largest halftime lead in a game this season
- Winthrop started the second half on a 6-0 run before the Campbell offense answered back as five different players combined to shoot 6-of-7 from deep
- The Fighting Camels led by 34, its largest lead of the afternoon, on a three from Faith Price in the final seconds of the third quarter
- Tatyana Carver hit another three in the fourth, the team's 12th of the game as Campbell earned its first Big South win of the season

- Tuelle broke her season-high points mark for the second straight game after setting a previous season-high of 20 against South Carolina State (12/20)
- The junior guard shot 8-of-15 from the field and made five shots from deep while adding seven boards and three steals in 29 minutes
- Taya Bolden also scored in double-figures, scoring all 11 of her points in the first half alone marking the fourth time this season the redshirt-senior has reached double-digits
- Carver scored a season-high eight points and had four assists in 18 minutes of work
- Campbell held Winthrop to 12 points in the first half marking the lowest point total in the first half by an opponent this season since South Carolina State (13 points)
- The Campbell defense has held opponents to under 33% shooting in 5-of-6 games this season after Winthrop shot 32.7% (18-of-55) from the floor today
- The Fighting Camels combined for a season-high 12 three-pointers, the most in a game since a program-record 19 against St. Andrews last season (11/05/19)
- Campbell has made 10 or more 3-pointers in back-to-back games for the first time since 2017-18 and the second time in the Fisher era
- Freshman forwards Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald and Christabel Ezumah each set season-bests on the glass with Fitzgerald picking up six boards while Ezumah had eight
